High end remote controls?

So I've always had the radio controllers that come with the rc's I've bought. Basic stuff. I'm recently addicted to these scale machines and I've been learning what I can. My question is, what are some of the uses for this functionality that comes with these high end remotes? I know I could program different models or use a third channel for a winch. Other than that, what's else does it accomplish for a general scale crawler?

Not much. The main advantage-using the 3pos switch to control a winch. Dialing in different end points for throttle & steering helps also. But I don't use alot of the features my spektrum has. Maybe i'm alone there, not sure. But runnin with my veterano scalin cats, i've noticed they don't either. There's abs stuff, mixing, & other doodads that'll never get used. Maybe a different story for a cat with a well setup moa, but not an issue for scalers. For me, anyway.

x2 have one other then the end points and my third and fourth channels i do not use any of the other features of my controller. the fail safe is nice too

The higher end radios have channel mixing for 4 wheel steering and 2 ESCs for Motor on Axle for competition crawlers. Some on the newer ones have telemetry so you can monitor the temperature of your motor, the receiver voltage and RPMs.

One word of caution: Just because a radio is expensive doesn't mean that it is better than some of the lower cost ones. Research is required before purchasing.

It seems like I'd be paying for unused features. That money could go better into truck upgrades

Expo can be handy in a brushless scaler. But like these guys have said, high end radios are much more needed in the comp scene.

the only thing I wish my DX3.0 could do was to control the rear steering separately.
granted my needs are very, very basic!

The ABS on my 4PK is fantastic on my short course. I run 1 radio for everything and would never go back. That in mind I bought mine used for less than a lower end model with less functions. set yourself a budget and get the best radio for that budget.

If your current radio does everything you want, then there is no need to upgrade. If you do find your radio is limiting what you can do, then make sure to look at all of the features available so you don't end up upgrading twice.

Guess that's why I put the question out there. I didn't know what people are doing with these radios with all
the features so I didn't know what I may be missing out on. Maybe ignorance is bliss. My current radio makes the truck go forward, reverse, left and right. So I guess it does everything I need. Just wondering if those other radios do that better somehow, or if there is something cool that can be done that I'm missing out on.

The higher end radios have channel mixing for 4 wheel steering ( A servo on each axle) and channel mixing for dual ESCs for Motor on axle rigs. Depending on the brand you have, you get to assign channels to different buttons or dials for use with a winch, 2 speed transmission or dig.
