Hit & Run Wraith - Ultimate G6 Machine

I also need to point out that the latest design of Double Deuce Foams do not mount on wheels narrower than 1". And when I say 1", I'm talking about the clamping surface, not outside ring to outside ring. The newest round of Vanquish Products 2.2 OMF, KMC Enduro, & all Method wheels DO NOT work with the comp cut style / standard / latest foam design that Harley uses in this build thread.


Thats really weird, I didn't have to fight these onto the KMC's at all.

I'll disassemble them this weekend and shoot a video of mounting them to maybe see if I'm doing something different than you guys when mounting it all up.

I think the reason Harley was able to mount his tires & foams on the .8" VP wheels is:

1. He installed used foams & tires, i.e. Tires & Foams that have multiple battery packs through them and are very pliable

2. Harley has Proto Type inners that have the huge channel in them, not the production 3 groove. The 3 groove is more durable and the outer corner stronger for better support.
 
The VP KMC XD-795's are all truly 1" at the clamping surface, so those will work with all C.I. Double Deuce foams for a truly easy tire mounting experience.

I just got off the phone with Crawler Innovations and after all the thinking
Of why these were so hard with brand new parts its clear that it VP's narrow
design to hit the nail on the head. The only way I see these looking proportionate
and easier to mount is to make a wider ring and a spacer for the wheels to fit and
Look true to scale. I hope VP sees this in the wheel design and decide to make there
wheel atleast in 1" wide and not the .8" wide. Thank you Josh and Crawler Innovations
for the help.

One other thing for customers to consider when choosing a scale wheel...

The average RC scale and comp tire is 2" wide;

The Double Deuce foams are shaped to fill these tires completely width wise for any wheel measuring 1" - 1.35" in width.

The Double Deuce foams are tight to the bead lock wheel.

The tire holds the foam in place by being attached to the wheel. Now if the wheel is 1" wide (inside bead to inside bead, not overall), the wider wheel is going to have greater control to direct the tire and foam where to go. It will also maintain a flatter & wider contact patch and will be more predictable and stable. The tire will not be bulging in the center because it's not being stretched around the foam onto a narrow wheel.

The narrower wheel produces this profile look= )( That profile will have more contact pressure, but will produce a bulging bicycle tire look and will be consequently less responsive and less predictable due to it's crowned profile.

I don't know about you, but I do not like the idea of a 2" wide tire being directed by .8" wheel. All that unsupported tire over hang on the sides of each wheel. How is that scale in appearance? How would that wheel make the corner lugs perform as designed when they are angled at the ground from being crowned on such a narrow wheel?

Just waiting for my CI double Duce foams comp cut & new 2.2 wheels 1.1 wide (inner clamping) to mount my "not yet broken in" Rock Best II.... It seems I made the right choice in terms of wheels' width then.....:)

Agreed. I run 9.25" wide wheels with 12.5" wide tires on my 1:1. That is a wheel that is 74% the width of the tire.a .8" wheel is only 40% the width of a 2" tire.
 
I have the same power strokes rear shocks and mines torque twists as I mash on the throttle. What did you do to compensate it. Oh my suspension is tuned to the soft side to absorb ruts and bumps.

I an running the springs that came on the shocks and running 30wt oil all around. No tuning was done beyond setting the shock angle where I wanted and adjusting just a slight amount of preload.
 
Well this truck did awesome at the events I ran it at. I was able to accomplish exactly what I wanted it to do, WIN!

Now with the Poison Spyder Wraith Budget Build coming up on Week 14, I have decided to part out some of this truck and use the rest on other projects I have around the shop.

Plus, it was still messy from the G6 and I just didn't want to clean it all up again! :ror: You can find the chassis in the for sale section first.
