So just figured I would let you guys know I bought one of these little buggers. Got it yesterday afternoon and all I can say is WOW. This ESC is an amazing value. $40 shipped, loads of programming options including a crawling setting. Hooked it up to a Tekin ROC412 3100KV and this ESC outperforms my buddy's MMP. Great low speed control no cogging what so ever even without the sensor hooked up. Hook the sensor up and you can just creep. Ran it on 3s balls to the wall last night as well never even got warm.

I know there are some guys out there that are against cheap electronics but let me say this. This ESC may be inexpensive but it is far from cheap. Built very well, I even disassembled it last night to inspect the board.....nice quality components are used all the solder joints look great! If your in the need for an ESC pick one of these up. I run the same ESC in my SCX10, hard to beat its performance at the price point. You can also flash the Hobbyking version with Hobbywing or Speed Passion firmware for better performance and more adjustments.

I had a 80 amp version in my Wraith and it shit the bed, but I think it was running it in the snow that killed it. I now have the 120 amp on order and it should be here soon. I have the 120 amp in my on road car and its been flawless.

Yeah I have to order the programming dongle to flash it but that is on my list to do. It really beats spending 180 on a name brand esc. I am also planning on dipping the board in electrical epoxy(waterproofing the right way).

I'm not against cheap anything, I'm Hobbyking fo life yo! Lol, seriously, it's just a toy to me, I have other hobbies and a family, if it breaks it sits, so I'm grateful for the review on a more affordable esc!

I have the 120 amp Turbo and have been running it in my T-Maxx elec. conversion with there 550 4x4 4.5t brushless. It does every thing i needed at a great price. I also use there batteries with good luck

It also has a built in data logger. So once I get the cable I will do some runs with some name brand motors and then with some turnigy motors and see how they compare. Might as well. There needs to be some conclusive data on these budget motors to see how they stack up against these half your life savings motors. :mrgreen:

Glad you like it. It performs even better once you flash it to hobbywing mod firmware. Even smoother low down, stronger brakes and instant reverse (stock firmware had a lag between forward and reverse). If you have a hobbywing 2-in-1 or 3-in-1 lcd program box, you can flash the firmware with that instead of the hobbwing branded dongle.

Huge fan of mine with a trackstar 10.5t on 3s in my wraith.

I thought about getting the box although the wife didn't like the idea to much. So I just got the usb dongle. I usually carry a laptop with me at all time anyway so....its a little more of a hassle but saved me a little bit of money. The motor I am going to use is

I'll definitely be keeping an eye on this. I just checked and that seems to be the lowest KV 4 pole they offer

They offer a 4 pole in a little lower KV Trackstar 540 4 Pole 4250KV. I almost went with this one but After using the ROC412 3100KV I want a bit more wheel speed that what the 3100KV offers. So that is why I went with the 4850KV. My thinking is the 1150kv jump wouldn't offer what I needed to the 4850kv became the one that I chose.

As soon as I get the motor in I will post some videos of its performance, stuff like low speed ability both sensored and sensorless, Top speeds, temps, and anything else you guys want. I am also going to be disassembling both the ROC412 and the Trackstar and doing a side by side comparison of internals. I want to see how they differ in build quality.

I went against the Trackstar 4 pole because I run 3S and they don't go low enough on the KV for me. I decided on a Tenshock X211 4 pole motor (2450 KV) in my truck since it has a much wider available KV range. Its very smooth, has plenty of torque, and the wheelspeed matches a 27T brushed motor on 3S. Great motor to pair with the Hobbyking 120A for an incredibly powerful brushless combo for about $100.

It wouldn't shock me terribly to find them identical, or very close.

Most of what you lose when going with these offbrands is Quality Control, and Customer Service. However, for me personally, it's a toy, not a life or death situation, so I'm comfortable taking my chances lol.

Yeah your right they don't have alot of options in 4 pole as far as KV goes. I am wanting more speed though. That being said I can go into the esc and program punch to be softer and have better low end control. Acts more like a lower turn kv motor then

I tried the x-car 120A and the turnigy trackstar 120A.

I didn't like the x-car because of some glitches when changing from reverse to forward and the fact, that you need an usb dongle and a PC to program it. The Trackstar is more expensive (~$45) but there is a programming box for it and you can change setting out on the field.

I want to give this ESC a shot

I know it will work fine. but my only concern is the direct reverse. I have 2 HW based esc's. a brushlesshobbies 120a and an ebay clone 120a. My BH esc has a smooth FWD/REV but the clone has a delay no matter what firmware I try

So my question is what firmware works with the xcar to give it a no delay rev?

Just purchased one of these can someone tell me where the 2 little capacitors go? They have a black & a red wire coming from them but the manual doesn't mention them

I can't comment on the capacitors but I robbed the oem brushless set up from a used red cat earthquake, turns out to be a hobbywing 120a with a 550 sensor less motor. I stuck it in my smt10 that I put mudbashers on to be a 2.2 trail and mega truck and it is very responsive and almost no cogging, compared with my twin hammers that's running a castle sidewinder and 1410 motor it is hands down smoother and when running 3 s is more powerful...of course it's a 550 can so it should be
