I've run their Puller pro but not the Trailmaster. They make great motors whether their high end or more affordable offerings.
As for an ESC I know 10 people will chime in to say a HW 1080, its a great ESC for the price but personally I want more adjustment and finesse and I absolutely love the Mamba micro X (crawler version) but it will cost more. Another plus for the micro X is the Aux wire function that allows you to use a switch on your radio to adjust drag brake (or a handful of other settings) on the fly. The active freewheeling on the micro X is amazing for downhill control, it uses the drag brake while you are on the throttle (going slow only) to keep it from running away downhill.
EDIT: I forgot the 1080 is brushed only so I'm not sure where the budget option would be.
Run the Holmes Torque Master in 2 different Axial based crawlers. I use the HW 1080 also in both they are at a price that is easy on the wallet. I have had very good luck with no problems with either.
