homemade clod reduction help!

The easiest thing to do is just make the holes where the bolts for the motors go through a bit bigger, and run a smaller (9 tooth) pinion)

If you're looking for bolt on reduction... It'd be tough to make on your own, I'm looking to do it sometime soon and I'll post up how. Otherwise, as bad as it sounds, just picking up those 7:1 boxes wouldn't be too bad.

i already have 10 tooth pinion gears any way keep me posted on your progress buying 7.1 sounds good to me to

Here's what Jay (rokclod) posted a while ago.

"Here are some more detailed pics of how I put this gear reduction together.

Basically I took an 1/8" shaft and stacked a 20T and 13T gear as shown. These ride on a couple of flanged bearings and are sandwiched to the gearbox with the two pieces of aluminum. The motor plate can be slotted to allow different motor pinion sizes if you want. I chose to use the 13T gear as it will bolt right up to the stock gearbox holes. Tis could also be made somewhat adjustable I think.

The thin aluminum plate has holes for the flanged bearing and for the two mounting screws. The thicker plate has a hole for the flanged bearing, a hole for the motor snout, a hole and slot for the motor mount screws, and two 3mm threaded holes for the screws coming from the thinner plate. I did all these on a mill/drill with x-y table.

Hope this helps......
Jay

how much of a gear reduction is that/????

Well, you've got the standard 13 tooth on the axle, so thats normal, you just have the 9 tooth and 20 tooth, 20/9= about 2.2

So it puts a clod at about 100:1

actually its 20/9 X 50/13 x 44/15 x 40/15 = 66.85 : 1

Does the 7:1 drive the stock 13 pinion??? That would make it 210:1

That'd be slower than a slug dipped in cough syrup

Even though I not fan of clods, that is impresive. How much do those units run.

It is one of Jay's creations.. (RokToy here and on the PBB). Things like those are too much of a hassle to try and sell!

Ace, I've read for the 7:1 deals that if you use 9 tooth pinions on both ends you can get down to like 450:1  Marlin (crawler) would call that Super Silly Slow  but actually, his yota is at 1047:1!!! Also, your math does work right but I thought clod gearboxes were 45:1.. so times 2.2 would be around 100? Guess they're geared taller than I thought!

You can watch it roll off a piece of wood and the truck will come to a complete stop momentarily while the R&P go from the coast side to drive side 8O

These are mine. I copied the Roktoy idea ;)
Hellcat is sporting them. They work great.
The only little problem is that they move the motor towards the center of the rig so slim frame could cause the lower links hit the motor during artic.
Nothing that a little of thinking could solve.
