How do you store your Lipo batt?

A fully charged lipo is about 4.2 volts and discharges safely to 3.3 or 3.2 safer on the high side. So 3.7 to 3.8 is right about in the middle.

So we shouldnt store lipo fully charged?

I was told and have read that we should not. If you do a quick Google search you will find that the common recommended storage voltage is 3.7-3.9V/cell. If you check your batteries when you first buy them, I think you will find they are in that range. They will not be fully charged.
Also maybe we should clarify "storage". IMO storage is not a few weeks, it would be in the months range.

Storage between 3.7 and 3.9v is a good idea. Cells last longer that way.

I store my packs in ammo cans, and in cinder block bunkers. Never had a fire yet, but if I do it will be contained. I personally know of a few people that have had lipo fires when batteries were "just sitting". Charging and discharging is when they are most dangerous, but there can still be problems when they are laying around.

I purchased a fireproof safe box to store my lipo and kept them in a lipo bag. I guess I will start using the storage mode of my charger from this point on.

I usually just use a LiPo bag to store packs. I also usually store at "full charge" to allow for "self discharge" of any chemistry pack.

I have never had an issue, but, my son has......8)

How many people store their batts in separate ammos boxes? I was just thinking that one fire and I'd lose all the batts. I might be buying another box.

Never thought of that. BUT I have like 8 batts on 1 lipo bag and its getting cramped in there so I bought another 2 lipo bag :ror:

I use the store setting on my charger for packs that don't see much action. Every once in awhile, I'll cycle them while working at the bench, and then put them on store again.

I have an old fire safe full of old papers that I've been meaning to use for storage. I think I'll clean it out this weekend.

Like a few others, I bought a fire safe. It's getting pretty full with 7 packs now. I didn't realize military supply stores sell ammo boxes fairly cheap or I'd have picked one of those up.

A fire safe seems like a reasonable idea to me. Meant to keep fire out, should work the other way around. It does specifically say not for storage of flammable items. I had the thought that a lipo fire would burn considerably hotter than a typical house fire. My packs are in a lipo bag inside the fire safe though.

I am planning on getting a couple ammo crates soon. A guy at our comp this past weekend told me about his lipo fire (his name is 'kunas' here on rcc). He said flames were shooting out of the lipo bag about 18". That is a serious problem if you think about it. Better not have that lipo bag near a couch, curtains, etc. Not to mention he said it covered his kitchen in black soot.

I think it is a good idea to read about lipo fires now and again to remind ourselves not to become lazy or complacent with lipo safety. No hobby is worth losing your house or especially family over!
