I'd like to get y'alls opinions about it ? 1st I'd like to say I've already spoke with REKREANT about the the situation(same subject but still different) and He said it was cool .

So one day i just said the heck with it,tried venom out for a sponsorship, (I've actually tried before with venom racing, and gpm racing, like 2 years ago,one said No, the other , Venom, went to tier 3 sponsorship, another story about that later)filled out a application of sorts, ask for name address the usual stuff other interests, then COMES your social media accounts, i was like DAMN, I Do do the social media, but im not on it like the way venom and probably most rc company's want you to be nowadays, post this, post that (TAKING PICS OF EVERYTHING, i would've if i was picked) , well that being said , i wasn't picked because my SOCIAL MEDIA WASN'T WHAT THEY WANTED it to be,wasn't up to par for them.

Speed up to a few months ago, did have an e-mail about it but apparently i deleted it(lol), but it said i wasnt chosen because my SOCIAL MEDIA wasn't active enough.

So my question is How important will SOCIAL MEDIA be in the future, im 43 , internet to me is, searching for information and porn of course.
Seems like that's what the internet is for?

Some don't do social media , cuz probably like me , IM LIKE , MEH about it. To much Bullshit !

I grew up without it i CAN LIVE on a island without the internet...LOL we played outside , not staying inside heads down looking at the phone(like im doing now,LOL) WOW.

So will you get a social media account if someone said you HAVE TO HAVE ONE ? Is it really that important or will it die, movie's have all technology in them, Back to the future 2 WOW , we have half of that stuff from the movie in real life now . Do you think social media affect everybody's lives ?

(I hate taking pics for one, i hate selfies too, that's just me tho, no profile pics in my accounts...lol)

I tried several different social media platforms and kept coming to the same conclusion...too much hype and drama for me...constant updates about EVERY single thing someone was doing...Why do people feel the need to let the whole world know they just took a crap or stubbed their toe...I will be 53 next month and I dont need any of that crap in my life..I hope all social media platforms like facebook, etc , die a horrible, painful death. Needless to say, I dont have any accounts like that...I belong to 3 forums like this and thats all I need.

Sponsorship is all about extracting sales from 'you' as a sponsored person. Your social media account and followers represents your ability to create brand awareness. Social media is and will be extremely important in the future.

I personally don't like any kind of control over me so I usually walk away or push anything that tries to bend me.

If you are aware, there was a thread on RCC about Method wheels that were a copy of Vanquish. I had done a rough calculation based on replies in that thread and IIRC the chinese guy sold over 7k usd in a span of 1-2 weeks via free marketing through this forum. Facebook, instagram or any other sales add to that 7k. Social media moves clicking products and people have become millionaire doing so.

You'll never win a Super Clod Buster with that attitude!

Any company striving for success knows that exposure is key and that social-media is what creates that exposure these days. That's not going to change anytime soon so for anyone wishing to establish a relationship with a business through sponsorship, it's going to take jumping through hoops constantly and consistently. The only way that social-media will not be paramount to the interest of a businesses, is if some other more lucrative ( revenue-generating) platform presents itself. Certainly for many years to come, social-media will remain very appealing to businesses... brick & mortar and internet based alike.

Just remember nobody thought that myspace, the home telephone, pagers, DVD's, tape cassettes or the horse drawn carriage, would go away,

It is difficult to step out of the here and now, but everything changes and evolves.

Absolutely nobody but us old f%^ks uses facebook. Facebook has declines 5% since 2017.

Eventually something else will be the driving force. If your very smart or lucky you will figure it out before everyone else does. I did very well on forums just like this back in the day. I learned to code, built up a base, got lots of free things from companies because I could drive traffic, made cash on ads, then sold out before the forums I build became vacant.

It has its place, and unfortunately will probably stay around in some form to the detriment of societies’ mental health.

Having active sponsored drivers can help sales, sure. But building a marketing team from them is a lesson in attrition. An ever revolving door of burning out and finding the new guys coming up. In my opinion, it is most useful when the product is not unique and needs help to sell. Makeup, dumbbells, shoes, etc. If a company is selling products that are no different than the next offering, the coke and Pepsi strategy of being “everywhere” is the result. Geeze, everybody drinks coke, I guess I will too.

My personal driving team is MY team, not a marketing team. I use them for honest r&d without fear of a bad product affecting the reputation. A first line of defense. I guess products like coke don’t need r&d, so sponsored people simply have nothing else to do but be marketing shills.

The majority of social media users are "me too" people. <-my opinion
They see someone who does cool, fun things using a product, then they have to have that product also. Look at the over-landing scene.
Companies give away one or two items. those people post about it. the company sell 100+.
My wife is a perfect example. She started posting about our adventures in the FJ. Got a lot of followers, then one day a well know company ask if she would use and post about their head unit. She did for about a year, then BAM. Another one and another one.
The company gave away one unit and received a ton of advertisement.
Social media is not going anywhere. Try starting a new career or getting a new job. It’s all online now days. Some companies even check your social media pages to see if you are a good fit.
As much as I hate it, it is the way things are going.
McDonalds has started installed giant I-pads so you don’t even have to talk to people behind the counter.
Sadly our future is starting to look like the movie Idiocracy.

I view live/streaming social media as nothing but self-serving, look-at-me drama. I've seen marriages and family relationships destroyed by it. I've seen the spouse of a service member killed in action find out about it on frickin' facebook before she could be notified by official sources. I loathe it with a burning passion.

But is it a dystopian omen of the future? Absolutely, in one form or other. At 55 I want no part of it, but my resistance to it will have as much effect as trying to hold back the tide. Eventually having a face-to-face conversation will be as foreign as sending a telegram now.

Like others, this forum is as social as I get online. But I can close it, ignore it for days, come back to it whenever. Read what I want, ignore what I want. Nothing is forced in my face like, ironically, facebook.

Free choice will ultimately become technological programming giving the illusion of choice.

When people realized they could use social media to spread their fake news and their agenda it took off. I don't think it's ever going away. It will probably evolve over time, but get used to it being here.

lol funny related story. was surfing with my wife sunday. board hit my big toe, ripped my toenail off and i was bleeding like a stuck pig. i took pics of it being a guy, and was about to post. but didnt 2 reasons, i was like whats the point?, and well guys feet usually arent the prettyest.

anyway just reminded me of that.

i dont have time for freinds, so i dont follow many people. most everything i follow is about cars, racing, RCs, etc hobby interests. so i really enjoy social media. but i dont use it as most do.

Well only about 10% of the US uses some form of social media or another. Right now things are changing though; companies are starting to learn that social media presence does not always translate to purchases. Its more about quality of followers than quantity ya know? You can have 10 million subscribers, but if only 10 of them buy the stuff you are talking about then they are worthless. Compare that to someone with 10k diehard fans who will all go out and purchase the products you recommend and its clear to see the difference.

I dont see social media going away for business anytime soon, but I think its place will be more in niche markets with quality followings and genuine content. Just go on youtube and see how many people are getting cheap crap from gearbest or banggood every few days yet they also complain about how they cant make ends meet because no one ends up buying the stuff.

FUN FACT: Did you know Coke still to this day uses extracts from the coca leaf, the same leaf that cocaine is made from? "Food" for thought...

10% of the US? That's hard to imagine since 100% of the people I know or who work for and with me use it.

58% of statistics are made up on the spot according to reddit, though ;-)

I dont feel like digging up the statistics atm, but yeah gotta remember there are almost 330 million citizens in the US. Last I checked only about 70% of households even have INTERNET.

Yeah, I keep forgetting about Wyoming and New Mexico.

FWIW...Statista claims 81% used some form of social media last year.

Other than a few hobby forums, my only dip into the pool of social media was a MySpace account back in the days of newsgroups - they didn't have the ability to host pictures so I created the MySpace account so that my motorcycle newsgroup contacts could see the various bikes I'd owned.

As far as I know, that account is still active!

(maybe I should go check it...)

On the show The Orville , episode Majority Rules, it all about social media, how many likes you have throughout life, if you have more thumbs down(dislikes) they'll Reprogram your THOUGHTS .

Will it be that your LIKES in life will put you in a better place, all because of social media ?

I find Social Media platforms bring out some of the worst in people. Sadly, vanity and self-aggrandizement seem to have become encouraged qualities on these platforms. Even my local radio station is encouraging it. They are holding a contest, the best social media selfie taken this summer can win a trip to...somewhere breath-taking.

Like a lot of folks, I passed time on the Facebook platform with friends early on. It was fun then, but now I find it about as appealing as the magazines in the checkout aisle at the grocery store. If google searches didn't occasionally lead me to facebook pages I would likely close my dormant account all together.

I grew up when vanity was discouraged and humility was considered cordial.
