How to clean a motor?

I just spray the motors down, on the inside, with some electrical cleaner or motor cleaning spray, while rotating the shaft once in a while, until you don't see anymore dirt or debris coming out the other end. Be sure to re-lube the bushings or bearings, because the cleaner will take the oil right out. That's the quick and easy way to do it. Check the motor brushes and change them if necessary also.

How do you re lube everything, what kind of oil do you use?
JEFF

I just apply a couple drops, spin the motor shaft around some, and add a couple more, if needed. Most oil bottle come with a small needle type applicator at the end of the bottle, so it's really easy to put a few drops on the bearings or bushings. There are so many choice out there for oil, all you have to do is search a little, but here are some I found right away.

Stick it in the dishwasher in the silverware rack.

I have never heard of that before. I have heard of the water break in but not cleaning. Do you hose it down with motor cleaner afterwards to get the moisture out?

Soap and water work just fine to clean a motor, its actually one of the best ways. You dont wanna use anything that leaves a greasy film or scent....I used to use a Bathroom Cleaner, was like a foam.......can't remember the name. The whole key to it, is making sure its ALL very dry when done.....works well, and is basically free. Not very pracitical at the track, but at home, easy as pie.
