How do I go about getting a refund. I purchased something in the classifieds and the seller said he would send tracking info and I haven't heard from him since. I used PayPal..it's been a week.
Thanks...

or wait for 40 days from the time of payment and then start a claim. If the matter settles within you two then its always good.

what location is the seller from?

also if this guy is a bad seller (im not saying he is) but if he is, please put this info in the feedback section to warn future buyers. best of luck.

PayPal will require that you make a reasonable attempt to resolve the issue with the seller. A week isn't a lot of time. I would try contacting the seller again next week to see if he responds.
You should keep copies of all emails that you have sent or received in case you need them for the dispute process.
If you have made multiple attempts to contact the seller and got no response then on day 31 I would file the dispute. It is possible you will be asked to provide copies of the emails that you sent to the seller and his responses.

You should read the PayPal policies and protection information so that you know what the dispute process works and what to expect.

Great info..I'll give it another attempt. I have all the emails etc..thanks for the quick response. Never had a bad experience buying things here before. Bummer. If it's unresolved I'll post the sellers info. He was from Alabama.

There is also a chance he can't get back to right now for a reason. I recently purchased an item from the classifieds section not knowing the guy was in the military. Similar situation played out. He couldn't get back to me right away but I was freaking out because he had a bunch of my $. Give it some time.

I remember reading we now have like 180 days to file a claim, maybe I was dreaming. I'll see if I can find the article.

It's 45 days.... If you paid with a credit card, your bank may allow 180 days to protest the charge. I typically don't wait long. If the person has not fulfilled his end of the bargin, it's typically best to at least start a claim...just don't escalate it right away...

He may have well shipped it and just forgot to get back on to give you the tracking info. I've done that a few times, just got busy. How is this sellers feedback here?

Mailman came today and nothing. The seller logged in this morning and ignored my messages. Whenever I sell something it's ships out quick. Why delay? I did see a thread that this seller has been Mia before. The outcome was never posted. He has been a member since 2009. Guess I'll start the claims process. What a pain. Oh well wish me luck.

Good luck.
Sometimes the Paypal nudge is what they need.

If it were me, I'd say after a couple of weeks of no communication, no product and no tracking info this is what I would do.

- Start a claim with Paypal right away
- Post a negative feedback against the user in the feedback section
- PM him with a link to the review and state that you have started the PayPal claim and tell him he has 24 hours to respond and let you know what is up or refund your money.

I've come close to having to do this, but people always seem to surprise me at the last second.

Sometimes it takes the dispute to get their attention. However, the dispute/claim/appeal process isn't quick. It is very important to follow the instructions from PayPal to the letter and don't miss any of the deadlines.

I would wait on posting any reviews until the dispute is resolved. Sometimes part of the dispute settlement is for both sides to agree not to post negative reviews. You want to keep all of the bargaining chips close until you don't need it.

Make sure at least one your communications with the seller was done with email address used by PayPal. This will help with the I didn't get the email defense. The filing the dispute causes PayPal to open communications between you and the seller.

The last resort is to file a dispute with your credit card company. You have 120 days to file it. If you go to the credit card dispute first, then the buyer protection from PayPal pretty much goes out the window.

Ok, apparently I sent the seller a personal payment. PayPal says this type of payment cannot be disputed. This is news to me. The seller must have know this and decided to take advantage. I think it's time to expose this cheat? Sounds like I need to contact my bank and expose the theif? I sent an email to the seller with no response. Again I have seen him logged in here so know it's a case of hide and seek. Luckily this was an $80.00 transaction but on principle alone this guy needs to be exposed for future buyers...blah

If you send as gift then you can't dispute it. Need to send as "goods and services"

Yes, looks like I did that on accident because I used PayPal app and hit the wrong button. My bad, hope I can still contact my bank to resolve this. Obviously not ok for the seller to take advantage of. Live and learn. So I should post a thread on the seller in the feedback section, correct?

Yeah I would

Please send me a private message with details of the sellers information

I will say that a week is not a big deal and you should t be panicked
I think PayPal won't even open a claim until at least 21 days pass.
2 weeks is minimal wait before a buyer should even second guess a seller.
After 3 weeks, sure, contact me, or contact PayPal too.

I wish response after payment was a mandatory thing, but its not.

I will say that one of my number one pet peeves here is seller communication.
I have expressed this peeve several times in posts here on the forum and will take advantage of every situation to interject it again and again on hopes enough people read it over time and things change (ohhhhh, one could only hope!)

Anyhow....

Sellers take the time to list a sale thread.... Great

Sellers take the time to go back to that sale thread and check their messages & emails etc... Endless times over and over like a hungry tiger looking for food.... Ok... Eager seller... Understandable

Seller responds to messages lightning fast to give out their information to receive payment .... Awesome!!! ... Fast communication is always best!!

Seller then falls off the face of the earth and never to be heard from again !.... Soooo NOT cool:evil:

I see this happen time and time again and its more then irritating.

I do realize that there is always a few select buyers here that can be beyond annoying with endless messages several times each day with beyond impatient tone and usually rude and untrusting comments that are always unnecessary.

BUT.... When you list something to sell, it should be available for sale to ALL the members with equal customer service... No matter who they are.
You don't have to be their pal, but decent communication should exist.

In a nutshell, if you can check your ad and messages endlessly awaiting payment, PLEASE have the same enthusiasm after you receive payment and keep in touch with your buyer.
Take a moment and send a tracking number.
And respond to buyers messages until they have item in hand.

No, you don't need to respond to 5 messages every day, but an occasional reply is awesome. Even if its a "got your message, your item shipped out on _____ and I am watching tracking # on my end. Hopefully it arrives soon. Thanks for the purchase"

Sure. That's a BS reply, but something is better then nothing.
We all know how much it stinks when you send out your hard earned money and receive no communication at all and then finally receive the item.
