I posted this in the tire and wheel section and had 37 views woth no respnse so I deleted and moved it here. Well I am curious on what is needed and how hard it is to narrow a set of rims. I do realize this site is dedicated mainly to crawlers bt feel like alot of tech can be transfered to other rc cars and trucks. I am Trying to decide if it is possible to narrow a wheel that is 2.2 to fit a buggy width front tire? Not to big of a fan of the dish rim but I do like the fat rear skinny front look. Any info is greatly appreciated.

X2. I will be needing to that on a build Im starting now. Dragster, phatties in the rear, skinnys in the front. I did see 1 narrowed rim. It was a traxxas rustler wheel, I think. Cut the rear bead off and turn it around and it slides back over the rim. then glue it on.

I use a drill press and the hex of what ever size I am going to use. Use a small bolt to put through the hex so the drill press will clamp to it. Here is what I did with 40 series 23mm wabash wheels. *Not with the tires on, of course. This shows with the tires, just cause that is all the pictures i have.

Mark a measured line around the wheel. Run the drill press at low speed and use a razor blade to follow the line, pressing down. It's pretty unsafe but just go slow and take your time, if you go this route.

Then use the section i cut out and glue it to the two pieces of wheels for reinforcement.

This is the only way I have narrowed wheels.

Hope it helps or gives you another idea.

I use a drill press to narrow wheels too, but I do it a lil different.

First I use a cut-off wheel clamped into the drill press.

Then I line it up, & cut all 4 wheels

Adjust the height for the width you want then make second cut in all 4 wheels.

I always used CA to glue them back together. There was a thread where fiberglass was used to reinforce the wheel.

Dremel tool, cut the wheel as much as you want, CA it back together. Some wheels go together easier than others, like Clod wheels, one cut and they slide together.

not everyone has a drillpress but most have dremels if not all. i use my dremel to do the cutting and use whatever size tape to make my second cut perfectly lined up and then add some ca glue to hold it together.
