Does anyone here own a HPI BAJA 5B? If so how is it?

I have been looking into getting one and I wouldn't mind hearing some opnions on it.

I just want to have fun with it... my crawlers don't have the speed factor:roll:

Thanx

I just order one for myself and they are AWESOME."thumbsup" One of the best gas RC out right now...

It'd be hot if HPI was to do a 4WD ver of it. But either way they sure do look awesome.

I have almost 100% deciced to get one now. I was also lookin into the Cen GST 7.7, but I hate all of the tuning and problems that come with the nitro engines. I am alot better at working on gas engines.

The CEN is a pile of dog crap, I had one, sold it fast.

OK cool. I think I will get one. Are there any parts that I should stock up becuase they break alot? Any parts that are good to upgrade first?

Buy some shocks shafts, actually invest in stock in HPI, the shocks shafts are WEAK. I went through 8 in less than 1 gallon. Also went through a stock clutch in less than a gallon, then sold it. I had one from the first batch. The newest batch has better rims, non vented clutch bell (makes clutch last longer) and some other small revisions. The shocks shafts are still weak as hell. There are some aftermarket companies jumping on the shock shaft problem. All in all, fun, but I still sold it. I may get anohter one when they get more bugs worked out, specifically the shocks.

The new SS version may have the shocks figured out, not sure. They haven't really released too much info on it.

Check out http://www.hpibajaforum.com it is decent site for info the the 5b.

Thanks,
Casey

the baja is awesome. no tuning really involved at all. a huge aftermarket for them. you only bend the shock shafts if you go crazy on a track or just go crazy in general. if you are just bashing around with it they hold up fairly well. the thing that you will want to invest in is a few sets of rear tires. the stockers suck but there arent really any that are a direct fit.

the reason they dont make a 4wd is its way to heavy to begin with. im not aware(s/p?) the FG makes a 4wd. like every says, the shacks are TERRIBLE. im in a club and we got to the local monster jams and race tracks and beat the **** out of our trucks. there are a couple guys that have a 5B. lets just say they've seen about 30ft of air and PLENTY of abuse. the problems ive seen are the spark plug goes through the plastiv and wrecks the rubber boot, theres a e-clip that holds the front tires on and they fall off after heavy abuse and like everyone says, the shocks are by far the weak point. im not sure if we have any pis on our site but its, www.teamextremerc.com. look around, u may find a pic or 2 of them. o, and they are hard to keep level in the air.

FG is coming out with a 4wd. I have seen the pics of the full production runner. Not sure when it will be out, but that would definately be cool.

isnt the fg monster truck already a 4wd? and also they arent that hard to keep level in the air. i dont have any problems. its all in the throttle control. if you have good throttle control you wont have any problems, it woks out the same way as a quad or dirt bike.
