hunting problem/glitching with axial Tx/Rx

This has got me stumped. I had this setup in a wraith, the stock AX-3 transmitter, and the Ar-3 reciever. both original off the RTR Wraith.

I had it running in my wraith with a Castle 10A BEC set at 7v, red lead cut to the esc. Hitec HS-8954SH servo, Mamba Max Pro esc. It was flawless the whole time in there. I took the whole system out and threw it in a XR-10 to get it up and running while I wait for the parts for the punk dig etc. currently it's running on the 2 channel, no dig equipped, 2 Stock Axial 55t tin can 540 motors equipped.

The XR10 ran flawless for 2 days, then it developed a bad case of hunting/glitching. By this I mean if you leave the truck sitting idle, you can see the steering pulsing side to side, not a lot of movement, but a clear wiggle side to side. Forward is a bit choppy, but reverse is real bad, it will pulse from 1/2 throttle to dead stop to 1/2 throttle again if you hold light pressure on the reverse control. I have tried re-binding the transmitter, I have reprogramed via castle link both the BEC and the Mamba Max. Both are showing fine on the castle link interface panel. and both have been updated. I also put new batteries in the TX just to be safe, showing good power on the Tx

With the obvious out of the way, I pulled the RX out of the XR10, hooked it up to one of my aircraft RX flight packs for clean power, used a total of 3 different servos. One in the throttle, and I tried 2 different ones in the steering slot. I still have glitching and get the steering servo pulsing side to side. The only way to stop the noise/glitching is to turn down the range of travel on the TX all the way down, the control marked ST-D/R. With it turned down I get no noise, but no servo movement, by the time I turn it up enough to be usable in the truck it's glitching/hunting like mad again.

Any ideas. I know the obvious, buy a real radio, one is coming for the XR-10, but once the new one comes for that, this old AX-3 is going back into my SCX10 trail rig if possible.

Digital servo twitch is normal, but it's just a little movement. More of the sound than actually seeing much.

Is the servo ground run to the RX? I will assume so since it sounds like you have the BEC running to the RX.

As to the ESC, lets clarify.
Bind or re-bind is between the TX & the RX.
Programming a ESC is just that, making changes in the ESC.
Calibrating is between the ESC & RX.

So you've done a rebind on the RX & TX, good.
New batteries.
Sounds like you need to calibrate the ESC to the RX.

I also think the RX is having issues based on your last test.

I had the same Sort of issue with an axial 2.4 system I use in my sons slash. We're using the older version 2.4 that takes 8 batteries.. Anyway
It was glitching the throttle really bad till one day it just stopped working.. Narrowed it down to the TX.. Took it apart..
There is one big board and one little circuit board.. The little is held to the big with 2 connectors. They had come loose and fallen off.. Probably from the abuse a 4 year old puts on the controller.
Anyway. Check yours.. It's just a few screws to take it apart..

Just wanted to add..
The connectors are fixed solid to the boards.. One has about 8 pins and one has 2 pins.. You have to line them up just right.. Enough jiggling and they work loose..

I also had the same problem with my older model axial 2.4ghz. I ended up taking the RX out of the box and took it apart.
Found out that the RX had a loose peace of soulder in it. That lowered the problem. But didnt fix it. So I replaced the servo for a water proof high tech

So I got home, ripped open the RX and nothing visibly wrong with it. I'll have more time later tonight to mess around and try and bind the TX to another RX. Try and narrow down what piece has packed it in. At this point though, I'm starting to think that I may have to break down and get a shiny new TX/RX all together. I will need to eventually to run the dig in the XR10, and if I get one that you can program multiple models into then it's as easy as adding a second RX for the SCX10.

So far the current contenders are probably the 4PL and the one everyone is hacking... would have to look up the name. I would like a full range 3rd channel though so I can vary the % input front to back on the fly.

The "hacked" system is the GT3B (or soon GT3C) that LosiKid sells on www.OverKillRC.com 8)
It's not a "name brand" but it works well, it's even not a lot of money.

Thanks, found his website, will probably have to place an order shortly, does the gt3b give you proportional on the dig as well, or just the basic lock front/back?

Yeah, I will be switching to dual FXR's in the future as well as better motors, but being down a radio, I need to address that first. I don't mind spending some time to get the right parts, I just don't want to waste money buying something that won't do what I need it to do in the long run. It is usually better to spend the extra cash up front and make sure you buy the right part the first time. Having said that, I do have a pair of AE-2 ESC's, If I have the logic right, I should be able to make that work on a 3 channel radio with the proper mixing, then swap out the esc's at a later date. I want the proportional option though, it just seems like the thing would climb really good with the front being overdriven by a little, but not having the back totally locked out.

I run a Futaba 3PM-x (3 channel), dual FX-r's & a WantAmix in my 2.2 Bully. This gets me front/rear dig as well as proportional.
It works a lot better than a single ESC & servo dig.
