Ok, I would like to buy a charger that allows you to adjust the amperage for charging lipos. I really like hyperion lipos and the ones I have allow to charge at a 5C rate.

I have looked through the manuals from the website for all the Hyperion brand chargers and from what I see you can only charge at a 1C rate. Is this true? If so why would a company make batteries able to quick charge but then not make a charger that does the job?

Please chime in on your personal experiences with any of these Hyperion Chargers.....

EOS403i

EOS606i

EOS720i

Thanks in advance for your help.

I just set the mah rating higher in the charger, so say if you have a 1000mah battery, set the charger for 5000mah. I haven't had any problems with my 0606i doing it that way.

I use the EOS606i. It calculates amp by the mAh. If its a 1350mAh. its going to charge it at 1.35 amps.

So I guess the way it would work, you would set the charger at a 5000mAh to
charge it at 5.0 amps... I'm not sure if that is how it works though. I don't want
to try to charge 5000mAh into a 1350mAh.

I do understand that new Lipos have the fast charge rating. And they have
warranty's. But I find when I charge mine at the proper low safe amps, I get a
Lipo that holds its charge longer, and has more power...

You can change the settings in the chargers to from 1c charge rates to 5c charge rates so you dont have to change the mah settings.

............Well there is your answer "thumbsup"

Ahhh nice... didn't know you could do that....the manual I got was so basic, it didn't say anything about that.

Ok, well I do the "trick" now with my triton2. Example I have a 850mah lipo so I just say that it's a 3000mah. That shouldn't cause any havoc because it's supposed to shut off when it's full. It's just like if you were topping off a large battery.

But it is nice to hear that you can change the C charge rate at least on the 606i? I guess that the one Jack is speaking of.

Does anyone else know if the others do this? Also if I already trick the battery the only thing I'm concerned with is balancing, that's really the only reason I'm buying a new one. Or should I just get a compatible balancer for the triton2?

It all depends on the battery. If you have a 1350mAh battery that can handle a 5C charge rate, then you can charge your pack at:
1350mAh*5=6750mAh
Which means you would set your charger to 6.75A....however, I believe the 606I only goes up to 6A.

As for the balancer, just plug it in as you normally would....

If you go into the User Menu you will see a Lipo Max C setting, at least thats where it is on the 615i and the 720i

Well, I bought the 606i. I hope it's worth the money. From the looks of what it can do I think it will be fine. I just didn't want to spend all my Father's day gift card on that, lol. I was talking to the guy at the hobby store and he said even though technically it would be ok to "trick" the charger he said it's not a safe practice. So just that everyone else reading this knows, I'm no longer doing that, and I can't recommend anyone else doing it either. Anyway thanks for the help and info that everyone supplied. As always this community is one of the best/fastest way to get solid information. Thanks again.

Did he explain why? I have been charging packs like this for quite some time and never had an issue...

I only have experience with a few chargers, but they have all charged packs in this manner.

Well, I don't understand either, he said there is still a risk of over charging the cells? I'm just gonna do it correctly that way there is no worries. I think he was more concerned that I was doing that with NO balancer.?

Well, of course there is a risk...but that has nothing to do with the charger. With any charger if you set the charge rate higher (either by upping the A or the C...really, they are interchangable), then you run the risk of overcharging the pack. Yes, you should be using a balancer. That 606I has a built in blanacer...

My Hyperion 606i will not let me change the amps...must have a old version of
software...My friend has his new one and he can change the amps...sucks,
might need to upgrade.

Just got a 606i this week and I really like it so far. You can adjust the charge rate from 0.1 to 6.0 amps.

My local hobby shop owner highly recommended the 606i plus it is what he personally uses for all his stuff.

That exactly why I got it as well. Came highly recomended. But I so far like it. Only charged one battery so far but fairly easy to use. I also like the Hyperion batteries. I have a 2 cell 850mah for the axial and works great last a lot longer than I thought.
