I have been searching this site for about a month or two and wanted to know a few this: :D

2. how do you hand wind a motor if possible

3. what are the best tires to cut and narrows

4. what are the best tires stock

5. what is the best shock location with or without cavilers

6. where can i find a awesome crawling body

7. anyone have tips on making my first tube chassis

Please include pictures with your post if avaible :?

Electronics: a lot depends on money. Obviously the Super Rooster is the preferred ESC. I dont have a huge budget and will be using the Novak XRS sport ESC ($55). I read something about it here and on another board, sounds pretty solid. TQ3 radio is the way to go if you want independent rear steer - if not, any AM radio should be fine - I liked my Blazer Sport from Airtronics in another truck I used for bashing.

Not sure about tires and wheels. I think with the 2.2 tires and wheels they are relatively narrow enough to provide good traction - I was planning on leaving them alone.

JasonInAugusta has some pretty good threads on brazing and making tube chassis, check those out.

I am a newbie waiting for parts too - wish I knew more, but from reading and searching this has been what I have found.

Hey cowchicken

I have a set of the RPM Starz rear rims for Assoc. truck that don't use hexes, but fit over the drive pin on the axles. They are deeply dished so I had to narrow the rear to clear the turn buckles. I didn't want to trash the front since I like the look and I'm building mine to be a scale 4x4 truck, not a full bore crawler. I just used a hack saw to cut off the outer rear portion flus with the inner lip. That removes about 3/8" from the width.

HPI 2.2" truck rims work and Pro-Line has a set of Traxxas front truck wheels that have a nice offset and will fit. A lot of guys run the HPI Yokomo Geolander tires. I will be ordering those as well. I also have sets of Pro-Line Dirt Hawgs, Dirt Works, and Imex Swampers. The "best" tire depends on what you want to do. IMHO, the Dirt Works or Geolanders are the "best" tire for a scale look; the Swampers are a little too big, buit they have great traction and add ground clearance.

I'm not planning on cutting any tires, but I know a lot of the guys stack two cut-off discs in their dremels to cut the grooves and use the sanding drums to remove lugs.

I'll be running a 4" shock soon, either Maxx sized Integy or Progressive Suspension piggy-back shocks. Not sure where they will be mounted yet, I have less options since I'm running the Penguin chassis.

For bodies, I like the Jeep Rubicon, the Toyota Land Cruiser TJ, and older Bronco.

For electronics, I agree with rockhound. What's your budget? I'm also getting a Losi LST truck which comes with a JR XS3. All I had to do for my TLT was buy a second receiver. I'm running a Super Rooster that I had from a TXT project and two Hitec 5645MG digital servos that were also from that project.

I took pics of my build process and my rims cut down, so I'll post those later tonight...

I'd say you haven't searched enough because most of these questions have been answered... literally in the last month or two. For wheels/tire questions, go to the tires/wheels forum. For the motor, I don't know why you are trying to hand wire it when a lathe motor is all the torque you need. And in general crawlers you have several posts on tube frames...

As for bodies... Most any body that is 1:10 scale can be made a crawling body. Be original. I hate seeing jeep, after jeep, after jeep, after bronco. Just don't use a car body... 8O

what do i need to do to the truck to get it to have the front axle to stand straight up on one of the front wheels without the reer ones off the ground

Extend it and run the shocks to the lower links. You'll get tons of articulation, including to be able to do that. It'll perform horribly though. Articulation is over rated.

Sorry I have to correct you

the Jeep Rubicon is a TJ
the Toyota Land Cruiser is an FJ40 and the Bronco is right. But known as an EB(early bronco)

Again sorry, I'm a Jeep man.
