To give a little background, my buddy lives on a private pond in a little retirement village. I guess some older gentlemen go bass fishing every year and bring a bunch back to stock the lake. Well, the story goes like this. My friend and his wife are out on his patio watching the ducks and geese float around. All of a sudden something comes a little out of the water and one of the ducks dissapears. He said it wasn't a turtle, it was a fish. They are thinking it's a "Ghar, Gahr" (sp?). He says they are from down south and he thinks someone may have dumped it in the pond either on accident or as a joke. Apparently whatever it is, it's big enough to take down a duck. Anyone have any info on these fish, or thoughts on what else it might be? We live in central Indiana if that helps at all.

That's not uncommon to have a large mouth bass take a duck down. I was fishing with my brother in a small pond that we knew had big bass. He was using a baby duck lure and I was using a 12" crank bait. He caught a 6 pound large mouth 21.75" long on his rubber ducky.

Also when I was fishing in MN I saw a Northern pike tahe down a rather large bird. I don't know what kind of bird it was though.

God those things look evil. There are a few guys in his neighborhood that run r/c boats on the pond. I was thinking about it, but I'd hate to lose the boat in that pond. If those are in there, I'm sure as hell not going in to get it.

at the river where i catfish/pike fish i've seen pike come up and take down ducks as well. heres a 150 lb Gar

I was at the Denver Zoo A LOOOONG time ago (I was probably 6 ) we were feeding the baby ducks with popcorn when a very large catfish came up and swallowed a duck whole! My brother and I freaked out, I haven't been to the Zoo since!
