I got a Weber 2 barrel on my 87 Toyota with a 22R

Today the truck started as usual and Idle high when cold, I it let warm up

a little then blimped the throttle it idled back down to normal

it ran as it should I drove to the high way it warmed up like normal

it ran good until I came to a stop light, I stopped and the truck was revving

at 2200 rpm's and would not drop back down to normal idle of 800 to 1000 rpm

like it did after it warmed up,

I pulled over in a parking lot and I took the air cleaner off

And looked at the choke butterfly's and there about 1/2'' open

which is why it was idling at 2200 rpm's

I then took a Phillips screwdriver and loosened the 3 screws on the choke

plate, and turn it towards the fire wall and that opened the choke butterfly's

back up and got them to be straight up and down and re-tightened

the screws and was able to drive the truck home

the question is why did choke butterfly's close and stay closed ??

I tested the power wire too the electric choke and its got 12 volts

constantly when the ignition switch is on

Can some one please tell me how set the electric choke ??

and set the gap on the choke butterfly's when the truck is cold

cause I need too reset the choke since I had to turn the choke plate

to open up the butterfly's to be able to drive home

I know the truck has to be cold and ignition on so the choke is under power

and I know I turn the choke plate towards the front of the truck

just not sure how much of a gap of an opening I need for the choke

Butterfly's when the engine is cold

Hoping some one can walk me thru how to set the choke

cause I don't think the truck will start very easy

cause there is no choke at all with choke plate rotated

it needs the choke adjusted so it starts like normal

thank you

I went out and I played with the choke plate

and got another question

I see there is markings on the choke plate housing

and a marking on the choke plate

and if turn the choke plate towards the firewall it will go rich and close the choke plates

and if you turn the it towards the front of the truck it will go lean and open the choke plates

my question is there a happy medium like in between the 2 markings ??

are you feeling for tension on the choke plates and the spring ??

that is where I get confused and not sure where to set the choke plate

you don't want it fully lean and don't want it fully rich either ??

is there a sweet spot in between the 2 and if so how do find it ??

Or it just something you know from experience, I have never had to set the choke

My friend at his shop fined tuned and adjusted the Weber and set the choke and got it dialed in and have not had a problem

for couple years until today and Mechanic my friend is busy and turning business away

and does not have time to help me out

So I need some help figuring where to set the choke plate

I use a 1/8 drill bit and close the choke plates till it just touches the bit..then tighten the screws down. start when cold and fine tune from there..

I will try that tomorrow morning cause

I figured out what the markings due on the housing and choke plate

just need to find the sweet spot so it starts easy but doesn't run too rich and plug up my catalytic converter

does the outside temperature make a difference

it was warm out side but the truck engine was cold

I set the choke using a 1/8'' dill bit as a gauge

the truck started easy but the idle was low and it did not rev high

I let run a little tapped the throttle, and the choke kicked off

I had to adjust the idle a little and bring it up

I'm going to let the truck sit out side over night so its good and cold, the truck was in my garage last night, so the wasn't that cold

and early in morning I will go out and start it and see if it revs high when you

first start it and wait then kick it down to the normal idle

not sure why the Idle is so low when it first starts and it didn't rev high

I directed you to a professional that can get your problem solved faster. Just because someone messed up your last venture does not mean everyone has the same intention.

Automobiles can be repaired, but someones negative attitude can't.

Going to see what happens when its cold outside in morning

I may need to adjust the idle speed while the choke is on

Its not revving high like it normal does when first starts and the truck is cold and its cold outside

and normally after a few minutes I tap the pedal and it idles back down to its normal 800 to 1000 rpm's that it idles at

not the 1200 to 1500 rpm's it idles with the choke on

It may need more adjusting

I went out and started it a 7 am and the truck and outside temperature were both cold

I pushed the gas pedal once that set the choke , I started the truck

it revved at about 2000 rpm's which is too high of idle when the choke in on

I let run for a little tapped the gas pedal once again and the choke kicks off

and idles down but the rpm's are too low, the needs to come up about another 200 rpm's cause it normal idles between 800 to 1000 rpm's and runs smooth any thing under 800 rpm's and it runs a little ruff

not sure how to adjust the idle's there 2 separate functions of the carb

and they both effect each other

I need some one to walk me thru it

Not trying to be a smart ass. But why not just put a stock carb back on?
Also if you don't know how to adjust a carb do yourself a favor and throw away all your screwdrivers, you will only make it worse.
