Well, Well, Well, We Meet Again

Hello! I am back, with another project! It took forever to figure out how to post images again! This build in particular happened a few months ago now. However, I still want to share it here! Now, The Wraith is still around. I should really give an update there. However, we are onto another project! This time, a trail rig that should change things up for me! Alittle backstory here, I have been running Axial solid axle rigs since like 2013. They are easily some of my favorite RCS. I've had my specific SCX10 kit setup since I bought it new as a high school graduation gift to myself. Now, after over a decade of the same platform (solid axles), I found myself back into the hobby when I picked up my SCX10III Gladiator. The long wheelbase was a nice change of pace. Then came the Proline I beam kit, which I still run almost every other weekend. Recently, I discovered that Element has their IFS system, that they just so happened to have a 3d print file to adapt to an SCX10! You see here, this drew my interest like no other. An IFS trail rig would be an AWESOME change of pace. Like Many Projects, I started to amass parts, and plan out a build.

I wanted to mimic this Rig here, or even a KOH EMC type rig.

Parts slowly started to pile up, and I became extremely excited!

Measure Twice, Cut Once
I found a cheapish-dilapidated SCX10ii here locally that fit the bill for the project! I stripped it down, sold the axles and transmission. Then, I got a bit ahead of myself. I found the 3D print file to adapt the IFS to the SCX10II, and had it printed. I then ordered, an element IFS2 kit. I anxiously awaited for the kit to arrive, with a rig ready to bolt on parts!

Houston, We have a problem....

Turns out, there are TWO IFS systems by Element! The IFS and the IFS2 by camburg racing! I had ordered the IFS2 system by accident, and panicked. I was so ready to start this build! So, I found an IFS1 rig and bought that, as well as all the bow house and SSD stuff to improve on the IFS system (I read that it was kinda not great). Once everything was ordered, I sat down to figure out a plan on how to get rid of the IFS2, as there was no file to convert it to the SC10! After doing some looking, as well as digging on here. I found LJD's build. I quickly found out that you can modify the IFS2 steering servo mount to work on the SCX10!

So, I got out the dremel, did some hobbying, and now we have an IFS2 setup on the SCX10II!

Now, I did have to flip the diff on the IFS2 for proper rotation. To do this. Inside the housing is a small notch that get's dremled down. After that, it fits right up, and is ready to roll!

Trailing Arms and IFS?

With this being a "go fast-ish" rig. I opted to setup a set of trailing arms in the rear of this thing! I used the mounts and arms from the Proline I-Beam kit for the rear. I eventually go on to run 90mm Proline Scaler Shocks all the way around.

Electronics, and Final Assembly:

Well, After getting the rest of the drivetrain built, and assembled, I started mounting electronics. I went with some cheaper Amazon 45kg servo, and a Injora servo winch as well. I threw in a spare shift servo for the 2 speed, and set up the ESC! I also installed a set of skid plates from Artful Dodgers out of Poland. Personally, these are the best upgrade aesthetically, and functionally. I have already beat these suckers up.

While many might not like the battery placement. I do want to address that now. This rig is setup strictly for hiking/running local trails. I wanted to set it up as a KOH style rig. Something that can scoot down the trail quick, and stable. However, I wanted to also be able to crawl some

Now, at this point. The Rig was pretty much in one piece. I have done lot's of small modifications at this point, but I took it out for its first test run!

First Run Impressions:

After so many years of solid axles. This was such a BLAST to rip around! Rock Crawling takes a bit of a learning curve, but whipping this thing around in whoops and flowy sections is too much fun! If you're considering building one of these IFS based rigs, DO IT!

Body and Accessories

Well, I am certainly not a painter, that's for sure. It didn't help that the window masks melted when the tamyia paint hit them. Proline did warranty the body, which was nice. I did go with the Forest Service Green/Mint color. I modified a Proline half cage I had floating around to fit the bed. Then took advantage of all the discontinued scale parts I had floating around! The body turned out EPIC! I found the grill on thingaverse. Looks like it is much thicker than the Knights Customs grill too.

Here is a shot of the Chassis layout as well. So far, it has worked extremely well!

More To Come!

Now that I have figured out a way to share photos. I will be spending the next posts getting you all up to speed on the adventures, and upgrades its had. It's quickly become my all time favorite rig. 'Till next time!

Sweet build ... looks like you are having fun building and beating it ... There is a lot of though into the build and that's what the hobby is all about, from the:
Body and Details ... bumpers look great and the artful dodgers skids have been on my cart a couple times lol!
2-spd advantage ... Can you add DIG to axials transmission? Not familiar with that axial transmission
Trailing arms and the battery position probably work good I imagine if you can get good travel and softness from the shock position
IFS2...++You got some added scale rotors up front! need some rear drums now! I recently flipped the rotation on my IFS2 great tip. Also shim it good and change to bearings.

This is new... they melted?

Is that the new PL bumper? It looks great!

They shriveled up as soon as the Tamiya paint hit them! It was a bummer.

Also, he bumper is a from a gmade GS01 Saw back tube bumper! It took weeks of searching to find! I have been swapping back and forth between that and a 3D printed one, but I like the tube bumper the most!
