I'm on both sides of the fence. I personally don't like the idea of illegal immigrants coming in unvetted but most of our descendants were illegal immigrants at one time, right? Discuss

ill sell my "free" vette to Trump the first chance I could get. then ill go find me a good used 4C.

No. Most immigrants between the 1600 to 1960 or so were legal.

I have zero problem with anyone wanting to come to the US for a better life and a piece of the American dream so long as they do it right. The laws are rather ridiculous but if you want to be a citizen you need to go through the proper channels.

that was a long time ago before we had established borders and social security cards and all that other stuff.

they are even worse for other countries from what ive read. as they should be imo.

im not a fan of illegal immigration, its one of the few things i agree with trump on. i dont even like how its now an established politically correct term to replace illegal alien...

Fact is, there IS a legal way to become a citizen in this country. Calling an illegal alien "undocumented" is like calling a shoplifter a "non-paying customer".

But, our parents/grandparents did it the right way. They learned the history of our country, they worked hard to keep their homes and families, they learned the constitution, they paid taxes, and when America went to war, they went and fought for freedom from Nazi-ism and communism. They were more than happy to go back to Europe, from where they came, to fight for the freedoms of their relatives and friends that couldn't make it to America for a better life.

Illegal immigrants want everything for free. They don't pay taxes, they kick out babies to get a bigger handout from the government, and they don't really care about America, and they don't care about doing things the right way to earn citizenship.

Immigants! I knew it was them! Even when it was the bears, I knew it
was them.

Not a fan. Not very fond of the "we're all immigrants" schtick. I'm not...haven't been for a few centuries now. I'm glad to see Trump stop funds from going to sanctuary cities. The crucial part of deportations...is them getting back. Like the guy who killer Steinle...5 times. My mind is blanking, but a few months ago...someone who was deported 8 times got busted... Although, she nice we'll finally have a border again, hopefully this won't happen. At least not as often.

Still can't get over Obummer threatening legal action against the AZ sheriff if he didn't stop patrolling...

Whoa ..... big lump there MANY migrant pickers I know don't do that and work harder than you or I. They do follow the rules and pay taxes, both federal and state sales taxes , and many do have cards and become naturalized with pride.

I'm not talking about the Sinolas and that kind that you describe perfectly.
It really isn't much different for Mexicans as it was for us Micks....

The question I have is, if a woman who is not a legal citizen has a child in the US does that child automatically become a US citizen upon birth? Thus giving that child health benefits? I am pretty sure that is how it used to be. If so, then that's just wrong when we struggle to give our own citizens good health care.

That's the law, born here you are a citizen. Those that work here and give birth contribute.
Those that illegally come here to birth only, nada.......

And where do I sign up for those "benefits" you speak of ? Not Medicare , that requires a bit more, now if you are talking about those sanctuary cities and university's , time to remove Federal aid from them

And that's where the grey area begins.
About 17 years ago I worked for a canning company in southern MN. A lot of the workers there were seasonal, most of them Hispanic. One of the workers, who was Hispanic, that worked in the department I worked in was pregnant. When late November~early December rolled around most of the other seasonals had already left to return home (Texas/Mexico). I asked why they (she and her husband) were still there. She said they were staying until the baby was born so it would be a US citizen and it would be "paid for". I said "you're a citizen aren't you?" she said she wasn't.
Now she could have been pulling my leg to get a reaction, but why?

I know there are a lot of problems with health care and it goes far beyond immigration but we need to start by eliminating all the "free rides", for everyone in this country.

I'm going to preface my comment by saying I am 100% for immigration of good people that will contribute to society. Some of the best doctors, lawyers, professors, etc. in this country are immigrants. On the flip side, I'm 100% against illegal immigration and refugees.

Immigration, both legal and illegal, effects EVERYBODY in this country.

Try being an illegal alien in any other country. Hell, try being a legal immigrant in most other countries. We, in the US, are way too easy on immigration. One, illegal aliens should be deported, period. I don't care if you were born here. If your parents were illegals you still need to be deported at any age. If you support illegal aliens you don't care about this country.

Two, we need to do a better job of ensuring we are't allowing criminals and terrorists into this country.

The government's job is to care about US CITIZENS. We should come first. We should be the priority. And we should take care of our own before taking care of illegals or before taking on too many immigrants.

This is on the bottom of the Statue Of Liberty:

"Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, the wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tossed to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

Perhaps some in other shitty countries believe the sentiment.

I agree they need to do it the right way.
