I've always thought RC rock crawling was stupid. I have always been a monster truck bashing type of guy with my 50mph E-maxx.....until today

Got to drive a Axial Scorpion and now im hooked. Havent been able to work on my maxx cuz im online looking things up. heres what im thinking

Axial KIT
Traxxas TQ

now my Q's
1. What saddle packs should i get?
2. The are brushless setups good for crawling?
3. if so waht kind of brushless?
5. if i go brushed, what motor is good?
6. Would my EVX2 be good to start with?
7. Do these systems heat up a lot?
8. do i need a UBEC or are the internal BECs good enough for crawling?

How deep are your pockets? I would recommend a dx3r radio/receiver......a tekin fx-r speed control, a digital high torque hitec servo...a good 3c lipo or if you want a decent saddle pack go with the new 1600 2/3 a saddle pack from maxamps.com I wouldnt go with a evx because of the lack of brakes......and add a decent aftermarket chassis and links with VF dig and you'll be golden"thumbsup"

They're not dumb, and you're new, so don't sweat it. Give us a budget and we can steer you better. I'll take a shot at it anyway:

1. Look seriously at lipo. 11 volts is a beautiful thing. Other than that, any of the packs made with Elite 1500 cells have a good rep. The Axial can carry 8 cells on the front axle easily.
2, 3, & 4: Brushed tends to be smoother. Most comp rigs run brushed motors. The cheap option is a 55t lathe motor. The expensive option is a cobalt puller from Holmes Hobbies.
6. I'd spend some money on a Sidewinder from Castle Creations. More flexible, and better suited to a crawler.
7. No. My battery and speed controller are rarely more that slightly warm to the touch.
8. A BEC is really nice, but not mandatory unless you're running higher voltages. Castle Creations makes a really nice one that is good bang for the buck. If you buy from Holmes Hobbies JRH will program it for you prior to shipping it.

hey guys, just finished finals week so i havent been around lately.

I am on a budget. realy tight. about 300 MAX. Just got done doign a full upgrade on another truck so.....:shock:

ESC options as of now
1. i have a EVX
2. also have a novak XBS Sport
*the ax10 will be getting the MM i have when my other truck gets the MMM

Tx/Rx
Got a TQ3 system. I will get another 3PM FASST receiver later on

Battery:
6 cell saddle pack to go on the front axles.

Motors i was thinking:
1. 45t Integy Matrix Pro lathe motor
2. 45t Integy rock crawler pro

any input is appreciated

the only difference is those motors is the stickers..just stick with the integy 45t matrix pro all the "rock crawler pro" part is, is a different sticker basically "thumbsup"
