Indoor Scaler/Crawler

Hello from Ulaanbaatar crawler fans,

I seem to have caught the scaler bug. I haven't even received my first, and I'm researching my second scaler purchase. In my self-rationalizing defense, this one will be meant to use exclusively indoors.

I have the Barrage builder's kit on the way, and I wonder if that will be small enough to have fun with indoors, climbing over home made courses built with whatever is around the house.

My other thought is to get a 1/24 or two, and play with my 7 y/o, making courses and running around our house.

Finally, to my questions for you more-experienced crawler folk:

Should I get a set of better wheels/tires for the 1/12 Barrage and use the stockers for indoor crawling?

Or, should I get the soon-to-be-released 1/24 Barrage (or two) for indoors-only crawling?

Or, is there a better micro/mini option that would be better at climbing over household items?

For example, the HSP 1/24 crawler with the ugly 'Spirit' pickup body is only $50, and my son and I could each have one of those for the cost of just 1 new 24th scale Barrage.

Thanks a bunch for your thoughts!

I had 3 ECX Tempers and if it were me I'd go with the HSP from Banggood since they are half the price of the Barrage.

Great idea, but I'd go with the 1/24 ECX Barrage, nice scale looking body with cage back like the old Honchos, frame rails (instead of aluminum plates like comp crawler), scale looking tires/wheels. The HSP Spirit is cheaper, but imo the tires and body are ugly and not scale at all. :)

Thanks Natedog,

I really like the look of that much better, especially the LEDs. The HSP, I think, is very much like the 1/24 ECX Temper though. If that's true, it's a great value for $30 less. I'll wait a while before I choose a micro or mini.

Those spirit 1/24;crawlers are saposed to be realy good they compared them to the trail treaker back in the day the losi parts do fit like tires and aftermarket bodys are everywere for 1/24 scale i have a trail treaker and i love it its awsome for crawling pillows and blankets and stuff as w3ll as rocks i would run my treaker on my full size rock course there alot of fun i burned up 5 lipos and a motor with it it got alot of runtime till life on the road took over i dont get alot of time at home anymore

I used to run a Losi micro crawler. I had so much fun on a 4x8 plywood course that I built. It was great in these Florida summers where it's either raining or 120 degrees with humidity. I can sit inside and crawl. Plus, you don't have to clean up when you're done!

Thanks for that Dave The climate here is a bit different than Florida. Right now, it's -15 outside, just one of the reasons I want to get one or two indoor crawlers. I'm still waiting because the one I want doesn't come out until next month (1/24 Barrage). In the meantime, I'll keep looking. I hope I can run my 1/12 Barrage indoors a bit once I get that built after Christmas.

Why not get the Orlandoo Wrangler/F150 kits? You can get them from Banggood or Hobbyking. It would be a very fun time together building it with your 7 y/o. Just be careful, the parts are choking hazards!

I've ordered an HSP/RGT 1/24 scale crawler for us to run indoors. Once it comes out, I think I'll get the 1/24 ECX Barrage, which is the same truck, I think. We'll have fun building some DIY courses together this winter when it's too cold to play outside. I am interested in the Orlandoo kits, but I'll try out micros with this little HSP first.
