Is Hakko the only option?

I use 60/40 rosin core from Radio shack without problems. I don't know if its preferred but i use it for everything

I might grab the 40 dollar weller.

I just feel apprehensive at spending 80-90 dollars on something I dont think I'll use a ton.

Don't waste your money. It was said over and over. Is Hakko the only option? Nope. It is the BEST option. No one ever says they wished they had not bought a HAKKO and bought the Weller. I am sure there are dozens of people who wished they had bought the HAKKO.

I had a Weller soldering station. Good unit for the price, but just doesn't compare to my Hakko. If you plan on staying in this hobby for any length of time spend the extra dough.

Hakko is the best for the price. Their are better units out there for sure but the start at several hundred dollars higher. Great if you solder all day every day but for hobbyists the hakko can't be beat. It performs as well as stations costing 2-3 times it's price. I have even accidentally left my hakko unit sitting on for over 24 hours with no ill effects. I cleaned up the tip and went back to soldering.

The difference between the other soldering equipment and a hakko is like the difference in using a flat head screw driver for a hex head screw and using an actual hex driver.

i dont remember the model, but i have a weller with the digital readout, it also has a stand and it cools the iron if i leave it on, this to me has been the most invaluable option, i have left it on for days on end with no ill effects because it does not keep the tip heated between uses... i love it, wouldn't trade it for any other machine... it really comes down to personal preference... they all do essentially the same job, and do it equally as well as the competitor in a similar price range.
