Alright so the chassis is pulled and in the classifieds. I took the body and started to clean up under the hood, removed the steel chassis mount and inner fender wells.

After I did that I mocked up the front axle and I've got a bit of an issue. With all the styrene work I did a couple years back the body has pinched in a little down near the rocker panels. I also trimmed the fenders so I could mount the larger flares. With the stock flare trimmed and the pinched plastic I'm going to be way too close for comfort on the tire cover rule for Class 1. I tossed around the idea of just starting over with the body, maybe ditching the drop bed, maybe add a camper top, eh...

At the end of the day this is what I think I'm going to do...I'm going to separate the cab from the bed and get a new cab. I can build a cab back for the new cab and mount the old bed directly to the new chassis. I'll have to redo the hood and cover the sunroof again. The width of the front end is just bothering me too much and I want the original molded flares back. This way the cab can be removed to service parts and replace the battery and it will be a separate piece from the bed, more like a real truck.

Also, as I search for ways to Jenny Craig this bitch I think I've decided to ditch the headache rack. The damn thing is just soooo heavy! I also think I'm going to remove the tailgate and just have it open in the back. All old beater trucks are missing a tailgate right?

It's a lot of work, part of me is starting to wonder if I should have just left it alone and started a whole new truck, that's almost what I'm doing. Eh, I guess we'll see how it goes.

Here you can see the pinch in the body and the tire coverage issue. I am right on the line of being legal...I think I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Got the new cab in today, thanks to RPP for the speedy shipment! Went ahead and cut the bed off, shaved the raised edge around the sun roof and removed the recessed area for the blower.

The front fenders look much better with the flares. I'll still have to trim them some.

Cleaned up the holes and then traced them onto some styrene.

Threw in the filler pieces I made after cutting them out.

I actually put these thin pieces on before the filler pieces. Keep in mind I still need to do some body putty work and sanding. Ah who cares, I've done this once before, this is old news.

Added a little trim on the cab back.

All this extra work just so my fenders look better, LOL. Here you can see the difference. The flares for a teeny tiny bit of width and wheel wells that are a touch further forward for a better approach angle.

The stock fenders look awesome. I did the most part don't like when people put the flares over them.

Got the motor and tranny installed, intermediate drive shaft, steering servo and winch. Check out the double servo mount up front that holds the tziworld winch too...another badass part from Chris over at GCM. Abbey is diggin' it!

Not sure, I've yet to figure that part out.

Abbey had been complaining about how run down her truck was getting. She also mentioned how some of her "so called" friends were poking fun at all the rust, saying it looked more like shit splattered everywhere! So I figured since we had the body off we might as well give her a clean paint job. Started prep on the bed tonight. Also trimmed the rear for a little higher departure angle. Maybe now she'll quit her bitching! Women!

Probably not completely, the bed is a little beat up to try to be too fancy. I'll probably tone it down some though. My intention is to add it back slowly as the truck gets scratched up. I saw another guy's rust this weekend that made mine look like shit. He gave me a couple pointers, who knows. Hell I change my mind daily anyway.

I think it's worth trying another technique if you weren't happy with it. "thumbsup"
