K2-5 Trail Teams FJ Cruiser

Oh man I've never used the textured paint, that look a ton better than just flat black.

8)

Yea it actually looks like a real frame sprayed with the infamous "undercoating!" This is actually the first time I've used it and I think this is the only way I'll do it from now on."thumbsup"

Lookin better and better"thumbsup". Have you figured out anything on the body mounting yet? I am at a loss with mine:shock::-(

that textured paint is perfect. I use it for the beds of the trucks...rig is looking good. Will look awesome when you get the roof a really "white" white. is that what you're planning?

Thanks man! I think I do have a way to mount it up, you know how I like hard mounting the bodies. Well, I think we can mount them up by using the existing mounts used on the undeside of the body. Is yours a Nikko of New Bright? I don't know, I'm gonna need to look at yours.

Thanks! As far as the "white" white goes, the truck is all one white so this is the color that it will be all over. I know it's not the really bright white but once you see it in black trim I think you'll like it."thumbsup"

I didn't show exactly how I mounted my FJ body to the K2-5 but it was quite simple. I made two small rails out of delrin that I drilled two sets of holes (one set for screws to the FJ body and the other set for body posts that face downward). Then all I did was drill holes in the chassis top plate. If you need pics I can easily snap a couple tonight when I get home from work.

Nice work. That's something similar to how I plan on mounting my body."thumbsup" Thanks for sharing!

Looks great bro!! Keep those updates commin..
This looks like its going to be another fine build!!!!

Thanks man! I have alot to do but I'm enjoying this one. I may even attempt to do some styren work so I may need some tips from you since you do some good stuff with the styrene."thumbsup"

You ass! Well at least it something relevant to the thread. No worries.

BG your FJ will rock! Nice color scheme bro.

^I updated my thread with pics on how I mounted the body.

Thanks Mad4Rnr! Nice job on your FJ as well."thumbsup"

Looking good so far. I never have a chance to put pics of mine up. I started getting the stickers off my body, but seems to be taking forever. How'd you get yours off?

OK here's some pics of the paint job. I had a few runs and some of the painters tape left some residue on the white paint so I'll be sanding a little more and putting on another coat of white before I'm done with the painting."thumbsup" These pics are ruff mockups. I need to loose 10mm in the rear links to shorten the wb. It's around 10-7/8" and needs to be 10-1/2" The height will be reduced when I get the hilux shock towers and shocks mounted and I still need to hard mount the body. The suspension is set up as a 4 link front and rear for now but will change to 3 links so I can incorporate the springs on the axles.

Yours is coming along good. I updated my post with 2 pics for now. Are you going to wire your lights up somehow? I am not sure if i can use the 3rd channel on my radio or put a 9V battery with a switch somewhere.

Well here I am at this point. I got my Bilstein shox in and got them mounted up along with the hilux Shock Towers. I threw a couple of pics in of the real shox to showthe color and mounting. I got some of Axials new Grey colored posts and spacers and cleaned up the rear suspension with them. I used RC4WD rod ends and Axial rod ends on the posts to make the links. I ended up losing about 8mm in the rear to shorten the WB up a little. Two of the pics show the difference in wheelbase.
I got my Cyclones in as well and these things are nice!"thumbsup" They are extremely light and the craftsmanship is outstanding.

Thanks man! Yea I'm thinking about ditching these shocks. They're RC4WD 90mm, they don't flex worth a crap anyways. I may switch to the new 80mm Dual Spring shocks from RC4WD. I can't lower the body b/c of the way it sits on the fram so I'll have to lose the height in the shocks.

any updates on this one? I just started mine and I wanted to see how yours was turning out.

Yeah, any updates?

Justin

Not at this time. It's actually sitting in a box in pieces. I've been devoting all my time and money to my 2.2 Rubicon and gathering parts for my Comp rig, but it's definitely gonna get updated in the near future.

Sorry for the slow reply and I appreciate the interest."thumbsup"

Cut into the underside of that body and drop it onto the frame more and you will be right on.
