Ok all I am going to do a review on the Ottsix Voodoo tires(Gold and Blue compound atm). First off let me give ya some back story. My favorite tires have been the donas pretty much since I got them. They were soo predictable. I was hesitant to try the boss claws but got smacked down by a set of them, so I bought a set and went onto have a love hate relationship with them which led me back to the donas:ror:. After that I saw a thread of regarding the hb khaos pins which I tried and loved. But for some reason I kept going back to the donas and finally I stopped trying pins and ran donas. So now that we got my back story with tires taking care of I will actually start the review:flipoff:.
First off let me say that yes I am a Ottsix team driver and I know some of you will say that its already gonna be biased since hes a "team" driver. No, I will not be biased. Most people that know me know that Im very honest and will not say something unless its true. I will do the best job I can to give you a thorough review which would include foam tuning, wheel setup, type of rock im crawling on, pictures, video and whatever else anyone would like to ask.
First tires I mounted up were the gold compound ones. They are extremely soft and very very sticky.
Golds: Fronts- C.I. 5.25 Cosed Cell Narrow inner with medium outer and medium tuning ring mounted on VP DHII
Rears- C.I. 5.25 Closed Cell Narrow inner with firm outer and medium outer tuning ring mounted on BWD CF wheels
First pack impression was less than desired to say the least. I could see that they would come alive later but wasnt happy at all. Pack 2 was better but still not all that great. Pack 3 was much better than 1 and 2. They would pull some lines on the smooth rock that my donas would only stare at. The places I dont like this tire so much is the rougher stuff. They still grab just not as consistent as my donas do. This may be due to the fact that im used to my dona setup and the tires themselves but it just felt like these tires dont want to be driven on the super rough stuff. This will undoubtably be my go to tire if the rocks are cold, wet, or slick because they outshined the blues and my donas on the slick rock. Throughout my 6 packs or so the tires stayed sticky and didnt really pick up much dust(like the panthers do for those wondering). That will be important for me since we run on pretty dusty rock. More tuning for them will be later because im focusing on my blue setup
Blues: Fronts- C.I. 5.25 Closed Cell Narrow inner with medium outer and medium outer tuning ring mounted on VP DHII
Rears- C.I. 5.5 Closed cell Narrow inner with medium outer mounted on BWD CF wheels
Pack 1 was the same as the golds, I was actually getting upset. The first 3 packs were ran at about 9pm last night and it was 30degrees out so it wasnt the best time to try them but ya know. Pack 2 was just as bad as pack one and I was beginning to wonder if these were even gonna work. Pack 3 is when they started coming around but by then my fingers were getting cold and I called it a night:). Today I did some suspension tuning to accomodate the taller tires and link adjustments and that helped me feel more confortable with the tires. These are taller and your truck will need to be tuned different than with the boss claws, donas, rovers, or khaos. If your gonna be switching back and forth between tires, as in donas to these, I suggest you keep a sheet for your setup for each tire so you dont get them mixed up"thumbsup". Ive put 7 more packs through them today and with the every pack im getting more and more comfortable with them. Im pulling every line I can with the donas and old setup so that made me happy. Off camber up hill dig seems to be smoother than it was with the donas/old setup and I was grinning ear to ear today watching it do some work. The tires are just showing some wear so I can tell these will last a long time which is good. These tires seem more consistent on all my rocks than the golds so far. These arent better in the slick rock but are better almost everywhere else so these are my favorite of the two compounds so far. I took a few pictures to show them but for some reason couldnt get good ones so Im sorry. I will be taking photos and videos this weekend at a gtg/comp the club is having this weekend so stay tuned"thumbsup"

Nice review:thumbup:. I love my dona's but if your liking them maybe I'll give the blues a try.

So I went out and put 2 more packs through them before I started cutting:mrgreen:. They were still doing very well but I thought that I could get more traction out of them. Onto some pics(not the best but they will have to do)
These first few photos show the cut I decided to try

This next photo shows you how well the front wads up even with the medium outer and medium outer tuning ring

Up next shows you how the rear holds up to my 5.4lb truck with all pretty much all the weight on the driver rear tire

These next photos show the tire roll on a sidehill(best I can work with at my house atm anyway)

Hope these photos help anyone that was wondering about the setup. Im loving the extra traction you get with the cut that Ive done. I have ran 2 more packs through them with the cut and I like them much better. Easier to grab ledges and seem just as good on the slicker stuff.

I had to lower the truck for the new CoG. I could not find any fuel tubing or any limiters, dont ask me where I placed them cause I have no idea lol, so I moved my front shocks in toward the center of the chassis one hole which helped get back the lower CoG but it resulted in my front tires lifting on more extreme sidehills and tipping the truck over so that wasnt going to work. I then switched from a 4in big bore up front to a 3.5in big bore. That gave me a better shock angle so the shock would push the tire down instead of letting it load up so easy. I lost some articulation but it hasnt had any affects that I can tell yet. I also changed my link position but that had nothing to do with the taller tire.

Hmm...interesting. I just got some in the mail, so I'll be trying to figure out the tuning too.

Nice review! I always appreciate an honest review over someone who just got the latest thing, and thinks it's the best thing ever.

So we had our gtg/comp today at a place that is super dusty, has many holes, and traction varies. I wont lie, every other pin tire I have used here I did not like as well as my sedonas. It just seems that the donas hook up great there for me. I knew it would be a test since all other pin tires I ran I didnt care for(others in our club run the boss claws and love them here). The tires performed pretty well. Im still getting used to them but they worked just as good as I expected them to. Now I cant say that I liked them better than the donas here simply because I know how to run those tires here but I did like the smoothness of the VooDoos. I ran the Blue compound for 3 out of the 4 courses and they grabbed very well. I switched the golds front foams to 5.5in wide inner with memory outer and they had stupid traction here. The driver (me) had quite a few issues today. It was one of those days that I just felt "off" if you folks know what I mean. I also dumped my tackle box full of screws and washers and anything that you need for a truck on top of my truck. After that happened, the front motor wanted to hestate just a bit on low throtle so Im wondering if a washer/c clip/ set screw got into the can somehow... I ran a friends rig on a course after we got done and he has the same chassis I run along with sedonas and it felt, different. Maybe Im getting more used to driving with pins now or maybe it was the suttle difference in setups but places he was having trouble, I was not. Never once did I make something that he could not, you just had to do it differently depending on which tires you were running. Will be posting up videos in the next few days"thumbsup"

I liked what I saw of them at ECC. No one had trimmed lugs yet but they were still hooking up.

One thing I noticed that I liked was that no matter what foam the drivers were using, I saw very little bounce. Almost like a bias ply tire vs. a radial. Very dead looking rebound which helped the drivers I saw, pop up on a lot of things that others struggled with.

Not sure yet I like the height... but I'll be giving them a try when they are available.

I'm surprised that there was no pin cutting/tuning before ECC...well, maybe not since most of the drivers got them right before leaving for the comp. The tire is almost exactly 5.5", most other tires that advertise to be 5.5 are actually quite a bit shorter...I think this is why many drivers feel that seem tall.

One of the design elements I really struggled with was getting the tire to have very little bounce...I didn't know if it could be done. I checked the design with a very sophisticated prototyping/testing program and everything looked great but I didn't know if it would translate to real world conditions. Thankfully, it has!

That, and because the sidewall is larger with smaller lugs when compared to a Sedona that has a smaller sidewall and taller lugs.

Good info Kratos.

DickyT ran Golds with lugs cut. Also, Pull-N-Pony ran VooDoos with cut pins up front and BossClaws out back.

From my rock pile testing and ECC runs, I am still not going to cut any pins on that set. I will cut pins on a clone setup to that ran at ECC and see how they perform.

I ran the voodoo's at our local comp this past Saturday on the sporty,, they performed awesome. Noticeable difference between them and the boss claws I had on he xr. The voodoo's also gripped where the rovers slipped. This was on sandstone so I am sure it will be different for everyone. I will try and get some pics and next part of my review up in my ax thread tomorrow"thumbsup"

I also switched around foams front to rear so now the fronts have the 5.5 narrow inner and medium outer and the rear has 5.25 narrow inner with medium outer and medium outer tuning ring. This setup grabs better than before. It seems the front are a touch softer now. The reason I believe is because the fronts are broken in foams and the rears are not.
