Large Scale SuperShafty Sand Drag Demo For ECC!

I would say you would need more float on lose/fine sand, so wide with less padles. For corse/packed such as wet sand you could do narrower more agressive tire.

Wheel speed is key in the sand, and also keep weight back in the rear unless hill climbing. You want the front to lift out of the sand abit instead of pushing it. For Example, my old rail was only rear wheel drive but I could lift the front off the ground by myself. 4wd I would say about 40/60 weight front to rear would be about right. The lighter the rig the better the float, so you can use a smaller tire also. A heavier rig need more float so wide tires would be better.

I like to think of sand in the terms of water, Will it sink or swim...lol

Sorry if Im chatty about this but I really miss the dunes.

Hey Buggy, since you seem to have the sand knowledge, what can you tell me about spooling the front axle up a bit more than the rear? Advantage in soft sand but not really on harder surfaces?? No usefulness at all?

By spooling do you mean, locking or over driving? I you are talking about over driving I would say it will help you turn better and also keep you from flipping over on hill climbs. I would say overdriving is good for most offroad apps, for sand drags I would say it may even help keep you straight down the line... I will go ahead and restate that most of my dune time was in a rwd buggy. When running tons of power pulling with the front just abit more than push with the rear will keep the front end down on the ground more and should make you over all faster. I really tired so if this dosnt answer your question I can try again when I get some sleep...lol

I do have to say, I have fondled Rick's parts, these are some of the nicest, well finished parts I have seen in a long time!!. Good job Rick!!

Not something I would brag about:lmao:

I am very happy with my Panther paddles on my 1/8 Foff, Girth wind and fire. Not sure they would be tall enough for a larger scale rig. How large of scale are we talking? Any pics or napkin drawings at least;-)

Well big decision made, I am going with 40 series paddles so I have paddle tires for my other nitro monster trucks! And I've always liked the larger scale stuff.

A pic for your entertainment.

looks fun man! that chassis is also very cool. cant wait to see what she looks like when its closer to done time.

are you going 4 link?

Those look like all around good tire, should hook up good and have some good float for the soft/lose sand. I like that the padles are spread out abit. I think you made a very good choice, in the old days when we started going to the dunes my first set of sand tires were just drag slicks that we cut groves in, they actualy work really well and used slicks are really cheap..lol I cant wait to see this build rollin, and I can already see the sweet vids..
