LAUNCHES with just a blip of the throttle

Finally got the new Gen8 charged up and running. But, this thing launches with just a tap of the throttle. There's no crawling here. Is this a setting somewhere that I missed in the manual?

Battery: Ovonic Air; LiPO 3S 2200 mAh; 25C

Thanks!

Regular Gen8

Could it be the ESC Jumper Clip (not even sure what that is)? The manual says it's set to LiPO from the factory, I haven't changed it and I'm using a LiPO battery. So, it seems unlikely... right?

Maybe it's just me? The truck will crawl - if the throttle is pulled about (no exaggeration here) like 1/32". But a 1/16" and it's GONE.

Okay... took it outside for a few minutes. It's definitely jumpy/sensitive, but probably "normal". This is likely just newbieness at work.

Very well could be. These newer vehicles tend to have WAY more power and responsiveness than what I remember.

If you end up wanting a little better start-up speed and are willing to give-up a little top end speed, you might want to look into installing a little smaller pinion gear.

my gen 8 is the opisite i have to pull the trigger half way before it responds at all it crawls great still running the stock esc i replaced everything else so its definitly the esc causing the issue

the hobbywing 1040 dosent have alot of settings so it is what it is i sugest upgrading right off the bat if redcat replaces it it will still suck

I'm running the stock ESC with a HH crawlmaster 12t w/ stock pinion and it starts and crawls slow, but has enough wheel speed with the same battery you listed.

After reading this I'm a little hesitant to order 3s batteries for my son's rtr and wondering if I would be better off with 2s for him.... I'm running 3s in mine and it's smooth so I was planning the same for his, but I'm running a Flysky gt3, wp1080, and a HH trailmaster 21t so that might be why.

3s and that 17t would be a little quick for crawling. Rather than buy 2s batts, just get him a HH motor and continue to use 3s. Try a trailmaster 35t. A little slower than the 21t, but not too slow and great control. The 12t crawlmaster on 3s isn't too slow either.

I'll keep that in mind! I have a 45t OG crawler motor and that seemed to have plenty of get up and go when I was testing it in mine before getting the HH. We'll just have to experiment with his to see what works best. Might be a slower process though because he has to earn it, which is why he can't open the Redcat box that arrived two weeks ago.

I think 2S is perfect for scale trucks or any kind of crawler. I used a friends 3S one time and didn't like the jumpiness of it.
Honestly, I don't see the point of a 3S in a crawler.

Mine was jumpy too, with everything stock. Changed to a Hobbywing 1080 and noticed a big difference. Changing the stock ESC is almost a must. Still running stock transmitter but looking to get a Flysky Gt5. Changing the stock transmitter will also do wonder for a nice smooth crawl.

I was thinking the same about the radio and with the lack of calibration / adjustments on the stock esc. I can see where things could be improved. I have also been pondering the thought of getting the gt5, but don't want to get price gouged on it.

i dident notice any differance in controlers i tryed the axial branded flysky ae3 and the tactic 300 and finaly the hacked gt3c the throtle was the same on all 4 radios

im also running the 12t crawlmaster with 13 tooth pinion but on 2s and i feel it has good low speed contol and good wheelspeed running 2s also lets me run a cheap high voltage servo right off the battery

I also changed to the tactic radio and didn't notice too much difference. I think I was able to get a little more steering but that's it. The stock ESC seems good so far. It has a good drag brake.

I have a 25kg amazon servo on mine running 3s with SSD brass covers, SSD aluminum kunckles, axle extensions with brass hex and 2.2s. Never had any voltage issues and the servo turns everything just fine. I did notice the tire hops when turning sharply at speed on concrete though, but crawling it does great.

Honestly, I don't see the point of a 3S in a crawler.
