I've had this build sitting on the shelf for a while and I recently decided to get started on the paint.

My local toy store gave me the heads up that this old plastic does not work well with some types of paints so I figured I would start with a small section and go from there. Since the hood was already damaged by the previous owner it made sense to start there.

First step after sanding was a tamiya primer base, once sprayed I realized I should have removed the sticker. One step forward 2 steps back.

I had always planned on doing a leaf Camo and what's more appropriate than using a maple leaf since I'm a proud Canadian. I don't have a pic of it but I made 3 stencils out of a cigar pack and started airbrushing.

First coat was Tamiya gun metal followed by flat brown and deep green as the top coat.

I'm not sure the gun metal coat is really necessary so I may skip it for the rest of the body. Still trying to decide on a flat or semi gloss clear when it's all done.

I've had this build on the go for well over a year now so I don't t expect the rest of the body to see paint for a little while longer so hopefully you guys can have a little patience!

COOL!, Weird, but Cool "thumbsup"

I've got the same Jeep, it's actually 1/6 scale, and there's nothing wrong with the plastic, I used Testor's and Krylon paints for mine, and it stuck just fine.

Leaf springs - heck yeah!

It looks like you have a lot of patience judging by that paint job.

Canadian Whermact camo, lol. I like the use of scale leaves though!

I'm craving a Molson now.... mmmmm beeer. Nice job on the paint. JTR is right, you must have patience for days to tackle that paint scheme.

I decided before I even got my hands on the body that leafs was the way to go. They're all homemade from a lawnmower pullstart return spring.

This project has always been on the back burner and I tend to go back to it once a month or so. One nice thing about this type of painting is you don't have to do it all at once and it's pretty forgiving. I can do one layer, regain my sanity and get started on the next.

Well I have two of those Willy's I would like to do replica builds with and give one to my dad, so all pointers would be useful. Already have Lt. Winters and Capt. Nix GI Joes for his.
