Consider this if we could tax recreational drug sales, that revenue could be used to help take care of the problems created by the use of illegal drugs.
Now it's just a out of pocket expense for US tax payers.
The current laws are only supporting the growth of criminal activities and gang violence in our country.
The Druggies will continue to buy their sh*t no matter what the law says. The question to me is who pays and why support the growth of criminal activity and violence.

I am only 14, but I am pretty involved in politics and such at school, so I like discussions like these.
My vote: Legalize it
I think we need to legalize it, then people dont have to break the law to get it and hurt other people. And if the were gonna sell it, tax the livin **** out of it. Put like a 30% to 60% tax on it. Maybe a bit rediculous, but the money could go towards alot of things, like increasing the police force, keeping the much more dangerous people off the streets.
I never plan on doing the drug, I think the smell is just awful, and it fries your brain, but I would rather see the money the government could make from it go to good use.

my step dad was diagnosed with cancer and he smoked weed
and now 13 years later cancer free!!!!!
and when i was a sophomore i had all those damn california test to take i smoked a little bit to calm my nerves and guess what i past all the test haha that was the only time i did it though!!!:lol:"thumbsup"

Legalize it... I think it should just be a controlled substance just like alcohol, people do stupid stuff when they drink and it messes you up in the same sense. You cant drive under the influence (being high) or do certain things just like being drunk.

the way i see it is people are gonna do it grow it whatever whether its illegal or not...the only difference maybe is going to be whos distributing it and where the money is going...i dont see why they shouldnt legalize it, theres no way that its worse than alcohol...and there isnt a load of violent crimes affiliated with marijuana, like there is with crack and all that other bull****.

The problem with taxing it high is that people won't want to pay that much for it. If a street dealer is selling an ounce for $65 and the the corner drug store has an ounce for $80 no one would buy it there. Who would you buy it from?

I say it stays illegal, because if they legalize it then they can't say wether or not you have been taxed. And then think of the the lazy*** dealers that don't want to get a job will have to find another way to make money to pay for their pot. I'm thinking that they might not be able to open and/or run a legal business should it become legal.

hate to say it, but... i heard on the new that smoking one joint is as bad as smoking five cigarettes. but people who smoke Marijuana are less likely to get asthma or other resporatory(spelling?) problems.

I agree, I say keep it Illegal. I've never smoked weed in my life so I don't know what all the fuss is about.My parents and family members do it,and for the most part I guess it keeps them mellow.My only question is if it was legal what would be the age you could smoke? I see nothing good coming from this.If it was legalized I could see people wanting to lower the drinking age then.Call me a goodie too shoe or a dork for not being "cool" cause I don't smoke it,I could give a crap.
