Little advice needed for wildboar axial shafts

Ok here it goes. I got a bunch of parts and such in trade and have a ton of the stock axial shafts. I use integy shafts now but since I have so many I figure they will make good backups. Now my question is, how can I keep the splines from gumming up so bad. I have solved the twisting issue but the splines always get gummed up and won't slide. Anybody have a remedy for this

I would say just keep them clean and maybe try a dry lube like graphite lube or something like that...wet lubes and grease will hold dirt and grime and get caught inside the ribs causing your problem

Maybe zip tie a balloon over them kind of like the boot over a cv joint on a car? Ive thought about this but I have no balloons and they would need to be black.

I was thinking this myself..but not sure how it would hold up on rocks..lol...should be great for mud/sand though

I tried some of the wd40 specialist silicone that dries but that's not working. I may give this balloon thing a try with some waterproof grease in it maybe. My reason for this is my boy runs full droop and I need longer shafts and haven't found them quite long enough without going mip or such and not quite sure how to splice a traxxas shaft to make it long enough

I made the mistake of first using a wood dowel
inserted in the male side of the propeller shaft.

The result was fubar... well... when it got wet.
The dowel swelled up and caused the slip joint to bind badly.
Permanently distorting that shaft as well.

Since I replaced that wood dowel,
with a plastic shaft from the spare parts tree...
It works/fits much better and doesn't require sealing like a wood dowel need be.

aside from that booger...
I really don't have issue with the slip shafts gumming up.
Only reason mine began to bind... is if the splines get booger'd.

If the rod inserted in the male side of the propeller shaft is slightly larger...
it could expand or swell that inner propeller shaft...
that could cause bind in the slip shaft.
Something to be aware of if ya didn't already know.

I have seen where someone has flipped the propeller shaft 180*
so the male shaft is mounted to the trans. side.
In an attempt to protect the shaft's splines I'll guess.
But I would think it could get contaminated more easily...
and cause some slip shaft bind... but then... haven't tried it.

So maybe others whom have... will post up.

I have flipped mine like you mention and it helps but still gets gummed up. My shafts are not twisted at all and when they start getting gummed up there is a pop when you separate the halves like suction release. Oh we'll I guess I'll just keep going til it won't work and change it out
