"Loaner" Bully 2 RTR

The object of this build thread is to show what can be done with a stock RTR with minimal upgrades and some tuning to get the best performance out of this rig. I will keep this budget friendly as this isn't my personal comp rig but will be a loaner rig to whoever shows up to our comps and can feel they can compete with anyone there. We'll start with the out of the box pics...

The electronics are actually really nice (besides the under powered servo) and have more than enough power to make anyone happy to run it. The motors are 35T and have good speed and torque, the esc has some nice punch to it and still provides good drag brake and start up, and the dig unit works just like it should providing front or rear dig with the flip of a toggle switch on the radio. There is also a BEC included! Now the wiring and placement of the electronics could use a clean up, there is lots of excess wiring, and I'll show what I've done. The esc and dig unit I have decased and shrink wrapped to make it a smaller package. I also hard wired everything together to get rid of any possible connection that could come loose (esc to dig, motor wires from dig directly to motors) and also changed the battery plug to a Deans and wired the BEC to the battery plug.

Now the ESC, I have removed the heat sink and the plug attached to it. You must have this little plug plugged in otherwise the esc won't work. I shrink wrapped it and then shrink wrapped the esc to prevent any shorting out and be somewhat weather resistant, DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK! I also cut off the off/on switch and soldered the two wires together so its always on. So far everything has been working great and has really made the electronics mush smaller and easier to package on the skid.

After changing the shock springs to the softest ones included in the kit and some paint on the body panels, it was ready for its first showing at our comp yesterday.

I was pretty set on a kit but now thinking the rtr might be the way to go (since electronics are decent other then servo). What's the weight now (without battery) since you cleaned up that mile long wiring and decased some stuff?

Weight is 4#6oz with RC4WD knuckle weights.

I noticed in specs info on the rig it says. Shocks can be filled with oil.... does that mean shock don't come with shock oil?

No shocks oil indeed... Some went with 30wt front and 40-60wt rear...

Shocks have some type of oil in them, not sure exactly what though. I put 40wt in the front and 60wt in the rear shocks.

More adjustments made. I moved the shocks to the bottom hole on the axle mounts and moved the shocks location at the chassis, longer rod ends on the rear uppers on one end to clock the axle back more and also dropped it down a hole on the axle mount. Tires are vented and lugs cut for more bite.

For anyone looking at a comp crawler, yes, its definitely worth it! There has never been a nicer comp crawler RTR or Roller/kit available until now. Besides a new servo this rig is just as it comes out of the box, anyone can set this up the same without spending a dime."thumbsup"

Compare what your getting to this and I think you'll see the value here, CF chassis vs Delrin, Ti links vs steel links, plus you get some pretty good tires and a few other odds and ends. I've ran these axles on my other comp rig for years now and have only broken 2 gears in 3 years for being stupid, they are very strong!

I'm on the fence about buying one. Real interested but waiting it out a little longer. Seems to be a good deal for the price. How does the dig feel?
