Locked clod diff question????

Ok, i locked both of my clod diffs this weekend with jb weld and now have them back together. I noticed turning the axles seem a little tighter....im not sure if this is a problem. Ive tripple checked all my gears sync, made sure bearings were in place and i greased the gears when i put it back together, maybe im just parinoid but this is my first clod build. What do you think??
 
Make sure you didn't get some excess in the case. It should spin easy still. Do you have a motor and pinion in it now? Check the gear mesh also.
 
When the cases are seperated i can turn the axle on the gearside like a feather, nothing to it. When i put the cases together and im just snugging the bolts its tighter...maybe this is just normal....ive taken each diff apart 4 times now and cant see anything that would cause a problem
 
I just locked up a clod diff with hot glue and am having the exact same issue. I'll post back with what I find to cure it.
 
How much grease did you use and what kind?
Too much grease will definately cause it to bind.
You should use very light grease on plastic gears,
and you should just coat the teeth.
 
I used JB weld at first, and it was pretty tight at first, so had to shave some excess off. Then it spins kinda nice, not 100% true. But, then I got metal lockers from Rc4wd, which I wished I done it in the first place. It is 1,000 times better than JB weld. IMO, lockers are the way to go .
 
I haven't heard anybody talk about using Two part epoxy at all. I have locked up my axles using this method and I haven't had any problems with them. Sounds to me like the gears might have separated a tiny bit, just enough to make them tight in the case. Just my two cents.
 
I used jb weld and a few screws and nuts in my sons SUPER and its been holding for almost 2 years now. The gearing should be tighter when you spin it after the axles are locked. You are physically spinning both axles with no help from any gearing in the diff. I use a CPE aluminum bolt on locker in my SUPER and it feels the same as my sons. Hope this helps.
 
It sounds to me like you may not have had the differential assembly perfectly aligned while the glue was drying?

I have locked a few diffs. I always assemble them with the centering shaft and associated parts in place (of course making sure no to get any adhesive/glue/whatever on these parts).

With the CLod, this requires the axle shafts & inner brass splined hexes.
