Looking for a space-saving way to store my toy trucks

Hi all,

Hopefully I've placed this post in the right section. I'm looking for a smarter way to store my crawlers. I've been putting them on a shelf for years, but I now have more trucks than I have space for and no more room to add another shelf.

So, while I was watching the Harley Designs video today regarding the new Axial RYFT, I found myself staring into the background at the way he stores his trucks on the wall more than I was looking at the RYFT.

Does anyone know what system Harley is using to hold his trucks? If you're looking at the video (or other vids he's made, I suspect), you can see it on the left side of the screen over his shoulder. Of course, the lighting is dark behind him but you can still see what I'm talking about.

Your help or suggestions is appreciated. "thumbsup"

I could be wrong, but I don't think he is using any particular "system". Besides, there isn't even any one particular system. If you watch a number of RC videos done by people on both sides of "the pond", you will see quite a few difference, albeit similar, ways of wall-mounting your RCs. One place I might suggest checking would be The Container Store...components from their Elfa closet systems would probably work. Another possibility would be wall-mount system suppliers for retail stores (what I would assume The Container Store's system is loosely-based on).

It is a shelving unit from IKEA. If you search through his videos, there is one that shows him setting up his studio.

I got 2x sheets of that white peg board. Screwed it on the wall with some 3/4”x1.5” stripping to keep it off the Sheetrock. Then bought a bunch of hooks and pegs from Harbor Freight. Hang them up on their axles and unsprung.

I just use these (bought a set of 20 for $23):

And you can just put them as close to each other as you want.. very cheap.

Hope that helps.

Ive got a old tv entertainment center. I use CI cell blocks n small boxes to set my trucks on. Plus it gives me space for my parts containers n other rc related stuff. Ive been lookin at new ideas for displayin them though. The angled shlef brackets are a pretty good idea

These aren't crawlers but it might work. Its the RC Kicks style "cool wall." Adjustable shelf supports you can get at just about any hardware store. I put one side of each colum into a stud and the other side used drywall anchors the whole length.

I custom build some wood shelves, they are freestanding and roughly sized for the class of vehicles they were supposed to hold. Some scrap 2x4's are cut into blocks to keep the wheels up. I've since way outgrown it though, and I've got spillover onto other shelves all over the place..

However, I plan on having the basement waterproofed sometime this year, which includes the installation of french drains so it all has to come down. In fact, the entire shop has to be torn out :( so I'm debating what to do next. I'm thinking the adjustable shelves/rail system bbeck006 posted, but mounted on standalone "wood walls" with casters so they can be easily moved around.

Might not work for trucks, but I built a shelf from sink drain pipes and couplers to store my RC planes. Has nice tube insulation foam sleeves available as well to protect and give anti slip. Does not seem to take heavy loads though. As another positive side it is easy to dissassemble and fit into say plastic bag if needed similar to some of my planes after I flew/ crashed them.

Thanks for all of the great ideas! There's a lot of great solutions here.

The one that appeals to me most is the IKEA Lack shelves because they look more 'presentable'. By that I mean I could move the trucks out of my work space and put them on display in my finished basement between runs. I mean why not? I spend so much time building them I'm just as proud of them as I am my family.

Plus, that'll allow me to use the shelving I already have for storage for other RC stuff like parts, wheels, kits, boxes, etc.

I knew I came to the right place for help. :)

This is the picture I'll show my wife if she ever says I have too many RCs.

This is my storage system. It uses a modular shelf system, the shelves hold a 2x4 that has holes drilled in it. A custom slab is made for each RC, and that is bolted on to the 2x4. This system works, but is not as flexible as I'd like. This spring/summer and I going to pull it all down and install a French cleat system that will allow for easier flexibility.
