I'm looking to upgrade my power tools and add some new tools to my arsenal.

Currently I've got the Dewalt 28v lithium combo with drill, sawzall, circular saw, flashlight, 2 batteries and a charger

I love the set, but I'd like to get an angle grinder and impact driver and be able to have the whole set use the same batteries.

My current setup has tackled every project I've thrown at it and has never left me waiting for batteries to charge. I'd like to find something similar.

I was looking at the Makita 18v lithium 7 piece combo but I'm really not too sure about it

What are you using?
-Brand
-How many volts
-combo/how many tools
-how do you like it

I have the Makita 18v lithium drill and impact. I've used it pretty hard for several years. I loved it but it's getting tired. The impact doesn't drive screws as well as it used to and the drill is forward only now. I've since gotten the 12v and 20v lithium dewalt kits. They're fantastic so far. I've had the 12v for almost 2 years and the 20v for a year. I find myself reaching for the 12v very often because it is super light and has a lot of power. The 20v set has monstrous amounts of power and I'm glad I got it because there are lots of pieces to expand the kit with. I'm going to get the circular saw, grinder, sawzall, and jigsaw eventually. Most everyone I work with runs all dewalt. I haven't heard great things about the newer makita stuff. Dewalt seems to always score high in the tool comparisons on the "tools of the trade" website and magazine. Maybe you should check that publication out for some real work testing results.

I have had the 18 volt Hitachi hammer drill, saws all, skill saw, and flash light for about 10 years. only drill set I have ever had that the batteries still work. I would highly recommend that set

I have been through a dozen Makita drills, all of them the batteries have given up and it was cheaper to buy new drills.

The last couple tools I bought were Dewalt. I picked up the 20 volt LI-Ion drill and impact separately for $119 each on sale so I could have 4 batteries instead of the 2 that would come with the combo at $199. Well worth the money for double the batteries and chargers.

I bought the dewalt 20v lithium non impact driver last summer. Call me 1990s fashioned but I still prefer corded cutting tools

I had a Hitachi 18v hammer drill that I forgot to mention in my previous post. Well I still have it but I never use it. I got it in 2007 and it gave up within 2 years. It needed to have a whole new drive train put in it. The batteries began giving me trouble as well. I believe the older stuff is better. From what I was told the 2006 to 2008 time frame was when they started to go downhill. Previous to that was better. The new stuff isn't as nice. I've also heard great things about the new Milwaukee Fuel line. They always take the top slot with Dewalt usually second in any tool tests I've read. If I did it all over I'd probably go Milwaukee but I've already invested in Dewalt and haven't had any problems with it. I use these tools daily for several hours. I work for a construction company that installs cabinets. Typically 250 to 300 kitchens and 75 to 100 bathrooms per year and growing. All for a crew of 7. So the tools get a workout.

Milwaukee 18v lithium. Brushless drill/hammer, brushless impact, skill saw, angle grinder, sawzall, flashlight, and sds rotary hammer drill. Use them at work everyday. tons of power. more money than most but well worth it.

Just picked up the dewalt 20v brushless drill/impact combo first of the year and so far am loving it. Lots of power, very cool running, longer run times and quick charges.

So far it looks like it's a toss up between the DeWalt 20v Max and The Milwaukee 18v Fuel.

I like the price of the DeWalt and I like that it's 20v

The Milwaukee looks to be better quality, but the price is pretty steep

So I guess I'll be going DeWalt again"thumbsup"

I highly recommend going with the brushless dewalt if youre going that route. Just last week I used the impact to drive 30 tapcon 1/2" thick 4" long bolts through brick and cinder block. One right after the other and it still had half the battery left. The metal part of the impact was just barely warm to the touch. Ive used other impacts that wouldve melted doing the same thing.

Have used the deWalt 20v, not even close to the Milwaukee brushless. Can drill thru a stack of 6 2x4's on high speed with a 1" auger bit without even slowing down.

^

My dewalt drill could do that. Are we still pissing?

From my experience using lots of cordless drills in the same class are all pretty good all around. The impact drivers however seem to vary more. The power, wear and battery drain all seem to be key factors, and mean more to someone using the tool on a daily basis.

Milwaukee makes some damn good corded power toola. But there are only a few names I like for cordless. From what Ive experienced with the dewalt 20v brushless so far Im pretty much blown away.
