So, I have 2 micro crawlers, decided a while back that I NEEDED a scaler...

Started with the Micro I'd already setup with the freemods, beadlocked, some other stuff.

First thing I tried was making an aluminum Ford F100 cab to get trail rash.

Not really sure about it, so I kept looking.

I remembered I had a Jeep XK 2006 Commander sitting around that I'd been saving for something cool, and after the wheelbase stretch I think it looks pretty good

Not too much of a MallCrawler or Barbie Safari.

But how's the width

Just about perfect.

So I built a chassis with frame rails out of 0.080" aluminum

Here's a posed shot, not rolling, body not mounted. just a tease

Since the last pics I'd taken, I built up the chassis spreader bars front and rear out of 1/4" lexan, stretched the driveshafts, made the stock radio tray a flip-up thing so I can still get access at the trans if needed.

4.7" wheelbase, I limited the articulation down to about 1.2" for a better balance of scaleness vs capibility, may limit more.

Body is staying kandy red. May do the bumpers and fenders grey or black. White rims, not sure about the bead ring color.

I thought it would be kinda hot out on the trail, so I kicked the sunroof open. Front lights (head, fog) for sure, probably going to be making some minor body armor, receiver hitch, winch, spare carrier...

Thanks guys, I'm really liking the body so far. It was off a DollarStore 1 channel rc toy.

Definately atleast front lighting (head and fog), taillights will be harder since I'd have to cut out body and scratch build them.

Good eye, that's my '85 GT.

Something looks different here.

Does that look different to you?

How about now?

I'm still debating on taillights, running lights, rock lights... I've atleast gotten this much decided.

She's *mostly* a runner, running chassis atleast. Still gotta build body mounts before I say she really is a runner though. Rear end needs support to keep the body off the tires.

Driveshafts were cut and stretch with some cheapy bic pen knock-off. I stuck the stock radio tray on in a flip-up arrangement for access to trans. Just stuck the battery to the rear crossmember with blu-tack until I come up with a better way, probably just using the stock battery angle unless I feel creative. RX switch servo taped to the chassis. Wheelbase really seems to make it more stable on the rocks.

I'm lazy and I like my headlights to stay on, so at least for now they're powered independently from the truck.
Lighting came from a cheap 4 LED flashlight/lighter thing and components I had laying around. Reconfigured it to 2 strings of 2 LEDs each so when I put in the dip-switch pack I shouldn't have to rework it for seperate channels. It's powered by a tiny 3s2p pack of hearing-aid batteries that came with the light. Mmmm 5mm LEDs.

stupid you so stupid

Hey Mods, looks like this probably needs bumped over to Micro Scale.

Some stupid noob doesn't read well enough to notice that there is even a micro scale section.

At the rate every1 complains about these not being in the micro scaler section we may as well just move every micro that doesn't use a stock losi body. There's many a Wrangler here that no1 says much about and all the tubers are scale buggies. I like seeing every1s project wherever the end up posting them.

I started playing around with the rear suspension and got a bit more triangulation into the upper links. Inboard on the axle plate and frame. Decided my rear shock mounts should have gone a bit farther aft. But it's pretty nice for being the Mk.2 of my first try at a scale chassis.

Any suggestions on body mounting? I'd like to keep it fairly quick release, but want it to be consistant and secure.

I just figured I needed to whine about it before anybody else got around to it. We all know someone *WILL* b!tch eventually :flipoff: Steal their Thunder! :flipoff:

Brains?
Braaaaiiiiins......

So, uh, like 15 years after the last post, i learned about a ready made scale Airstream Trailer that fits with micro scale stuff.

You could possibly try to use search terms about how: AMC theaters had a "The Accountant 2" popcorn bucket.

I wouldn't search those, it certainly won't get you anything thats 17.5" long, 5" wide, 6" tall. The roof might swing open on the street side. My uncalibrated Eyecrometer thinks somewhere 1/20-1/24 scale? That jeeeep Commander body fit on my losi MICRO crawler, so try to scale that however works for new stuff

Some excessive researching (over in my Airstream Bambi tequila thread that is also with a jeep) suggested It's a 34 foot AirStream Pan-America model. I don't know enough about trailers to know if that 35' is end no end, or the box?
But ... If 34' x 12 = 408" then ÷ 17.5" bumper to coupler = 1/23.3 scale?

ssshhhhhh, we won't tell

Nice gula! Since it's now become "heritage" I don't think that moving to Micro Scalers is even a thing now.
"Well, back in my day, we had to push our trucks uphill both ways over rocks..."

Need to figure out where my wifes losi micro Trekker with her old radioshack Chevy Squarebody ended up. If there's now a micro motor that doesn't overheat by just moving the truck, it'll probably become the tow rig.
