what is so good about these motors?

i was wondering because i'm about to do an emaxx based crawler and don't have motors yet so i was looking at my options and i saw a lot of people use them for crawlers.

They are good because they have gobs of low-end torque which is exzactly what we are looking for when crawling. With 9-tooth pinions they are awsome and will give you exzactly what you want. They also only cost $22.95 on www.rc4wd.com. You can also run a gear reduction on it and have almost too much torque. Hope that answers your question.

At towerhobbies.com they are only $19.99

whats up with the reverse rotation, can't you just reverse the + and - , or do you need that for a clod or trucks set up like that

How good are these motors in the durability department? like how often do you have to change the brushes etc.?

You don't need a reverse rotation motor for a E-Maxx tranny, only the Clods. I am currently mkaing over my Juggy so I have a set on the way but don't own one. I would asssume that they would be the exzact same as any other motor so I wouldn't worry about that. They will be like every 10-15 runs for maximum power. I don't usually change mine until at least 20 runs so don't worry about that.

what type of brushes seem to work the best, what do you use and how much are they?

oh yea and what about the commutator? does it need any maintence?

and since im new to electric do you need to do any type of break in?

well then how can you go in reverse, cause if you can go in reverse then changing the wires is what you are doing(in theory) right?? wouldn't the timing mess with it??

im not sure, im to the electric thing.

i don;t know about brushes but they're probably lay-down brushes. I woiuldn't think that the commutator would need much matinence but it might need some. As for break-in just go easy on it for the first little while and then have fun.

No changing the wires isn't the same. Since the timing is advanced the motors are designed to spin a specific direction. If you run them backwards from the direction they were designed they wont spin the same RPM or create the same power (IE less power and RPM). And yes they will fit a Clod gearbox no problem.

You can buy the Magnetic Meyhem motors in both forward and reverse styles anyway if that is what you need. They have two different part numbers.

However, in theory it should be possible to simply remove the end bell and rotate it 180 degrees?? and then reverse the power leads?

I've used mag meyhems on many of my trucks and they are good, reliable units. However, over here in the UK they can cost as much as £40 ($60+) so I used standard RS550SH motors as found in cordless drills.

The RS550SH are cheap, disposable units, only cost a few dollars each and can run 14.4v. They already have stacks of torque at 7.2v but at 14.4 they can rip your tranny apart! I'm running one in my latest crawler with 65:1 reduction unit and 8.4v and that is still too torquey, producing annoying amounts of torque twist and will even twist the vehicle right over on sideslopes if your not careful. This is a big problem with shaft drive n trucks.......

the mayhems are excellent motors. and if you don't want to maintain them, they still run forever. i have been running mine for over a year and they probably have over 300 packs run through them. I have never cleaned them and they still work great. They are on a clod and they get beat up and bashed down on the axles, and they haven't had any problemsl. I took first place in Moab, Utah with these year old motors. Another thing that's great about the mayhems is they have lots of breaking. Once you start crawling you'll understand why breaking power is important.
