Maximum Overdrive ***All Most Finished***

I have started a new crawler scale project micro style starting with a 1983 optimus prime transformer (thanks to Double J for the idea) I have gotten the cab mounted to the chassis 1/24th scale and I am in the process of making an alluminum bed for it. The reason I am calling it Maximum Overdrive is that my mom said it looks like one of the posessed semi trucks off the movie (me I couldn't really say I have never seen it before lol). For wheels and tires I will be running American Racing Torque Thrust II five spokes wraped in Good Year rubber. For the radio system I'm thinking of running a 2 channel traxxas with a micro servo for steering and a full scale servo for a speed control. For the axles I don't have any yet I may custom make my own or find a SSMT some where (if any body's got one please PM me). As for suspention I will probly run coil front and rear (too small to make leaf springs). this again I'm not sure on will wait untill I get axles for it. Here is a link for pics hope you all like it and feel free to hockey puck this thing around if needed. Also any critism is welcome good or bad.

Please tell me that the Optimus figure was already in bad shape and you didnt purposely destroy it?! Other than that looks like an interesting build and cant wait to see it progress.

Please tell me the Optimus figure was allready in pretty bad shape and you didn't purposely destroy it?!
. The truck was in decent condition when I got it. but I picked it up for a buck Canadian I am smart though because if its soooooo rare I just unbolt the chassis and put the stock parts back on it. Thanks for posting the pics J and Clod booster did you try the link I posted or just the ones J posted? I'll get some more work done on it when i get the back half donbe and find some axles for it.

Its not bad its about 5 inches or so the tires are 1/26th scale I may change them if I can find some different ones for cheep but probly not so far on this original cost of every thing I have about a buck into the project. lol so I'll take what I can get.

Hey guys I should have the new bed cut out later today hope fully so I will post some pics of that for you. But what do you think I should use for axles on this rig SSMT or custom? I still haven't been able to find an SSMT even in the thrift shops (last resort and nothing):-( so I may end up going custom on it. What do you think?

Hey guys I told you I'd have some more progress on it. I stopped at the Hobby Guys and got myself a high torque micro servo from hitec and got it mounted up on the aluminum bed just above the transmition on the scale motor so it is faily hidden on it.(going for all out scale) I will be mounting all the electronics in the bed and it will have a fabric toneu(SP) cover and balsa wood bed sides to make it all nice. Hope you like it so far should have more updates very soon. Still looking for opinions on the axles though ^^^. Let me know.http://www.putfile.com/lab-rat/images/38804

trie costom if later the ssmt come avalible get them if the costoms dont work.

Allright I think I will. I'll probly do the prototypes out of balsa then get some one to do them out of alluminum on a cad machine (balsa is allot cheaper and easyer to work with than alluminum for me). I'll keep you uys updated on the parts I use.

Looks good so far. Glad I could give you the idea. It's still not exactly what I was going to do but it looks good. I saw some of the axles you were looking for on ebay about $25 last I checked.

Thanks. Ha Ha I completly forgot about e-bay thanks J. I got the steering linkages from the servo to the bell crank at the front done but I had to get rid of the scale motor :-( but I think I might redo it so I can run it because it was so cool.

Sup guys I got all inspired last night at about 2am and I decided the truck just wasn't right without the scale motor in it so... I rebent the steering linkage and it ended up working better than before. Today I'm going to hit the local toy store and see if I can find any thing I can rob the axles out of because the best price I can find on the SSMT's is from a member here and he wants 65 USD each . So I'll let you guys in on what I find later tonite if I find any thing.

all i can say is "Dare to be Different" why not try a radio shack zip zap monster truck. it is 1/64 scale but 4wd and shaft driven. itll take some moding but cheap.

Well I went to the local toy stores today and came up with nuthin but I was at the radio shack and there were no zipzaps so I still have to check on those before I decide I need to shell out 65usd + shipping for axles (I should build a clod for that price). I'll keep you guys updated ot my informed descitions and all the fun stuff.

Sorry for no updates lately still debating what to use for axles but I got set up with some new tires for it. I got a set of oh probly 44 inch nitto tires on beedlock rims I read a review in petersons 4wd and offroad magazine (lol) and they rated 5 out of 5 for rock crawling so I will post some pics up for you guys later. Also I decided I needed some thing to tow this beast of a truck considering it isn't exactly street legal so I'm mounting the old wheels and tires up on a slammed ford f150 super cab short box. with a wood bed. I'll post pics of this with the trailer later too.
