maxx sliders

I just got my maxx sliders for my axles and i want to put the u-joints in them. I noticed that their notched but their still really tight to put in and i figure thats a good thing but is there a trick to put the u-joint on the shafts. I just got them and stuff is real expensive here so i want to do this right the first time.

yeh, they are a pain in the butt! when i do it, it put one side of the metal ball/cross in a vise to hold it. i tighten it enough so it won't spin. then i use a flat head screwdriver to help get the plastic part over the one side of the pin. but i have never really found an "easy" way to put them on.

I put one side of the steel ball in first ........then push the ball into my benchtop. Usally I have to help the process with a pair of needlenose. Flaring it a little extra.
Tape the ends of the pliers to minimize damage to the shaft.

I am looking for a better way if anyone has one

i put one end into the slider, then take a pair of pliers and squeeze it in( one side on the u-joint and the other on back side of slider) then finish sliding it in with a flathead.. it only takes me about 5 secs to pop one in or out..i used to think they were hard, but they are a piece of cake.i think its harder to get the set screw in the ends instead but i usually change it out while its on the truck, so i don't screw with those screws much anyway :twisted:

You need the little tool that comes with the maxx. Looks like a two pronged really short fork. Pop on and off easy with the tool.

Yep. The little fork tool works well. One tip: With the fork tool, wrap electrical tape(a bunch of it) on the end of it, where you hold it. It will give you more leverage and won't dig into your hand.
