Metal vs plastic wheels

Just recently purchased a set of aluminum 2.2 beadlocks for my Wraith. Love the the look, but I'm wondering if the extra weight is worth the strain on the drive train? My reasons for buying them were that they must be more true than plastic, but that all seems to go out the window once the foams get wet. How many of you run plastic over metal? Or vice versa?

not enough weight to really cause an issue, most of my crawlers are running steel wheels or aluminum...have has zero issues with strain on the drive line....I have plastic bead locks on my bomber just because of the price at the time...

I run plastic on all my rigs. I don't care about looks so much and 6 bolt wheels from crawler innovations are light and cheap. I do own a set of axial IFD wheels with some chicom aluminum faces. They were part of a package deal and they aren't a terrible wheel. Although they hold a proline bead far better than most other brands of tires.

I run a bit of both. I have different sets of tires / wheels for different terrain or use. I like a light plastic wheel for faster stuff, less stress, etc. if I am just crawling or some trailing I use an aluminum wheel. I don't use steel or weighted wheels anymore.

some uses plastic wheel with some weight inside them..
some uses alumunium whithout weight..

do with what you like most, they put weight to add lower center of gravity on the wheel

I have CI plastic 6 bolts on the comp rig, no added weight to wheel.

Aluminum wheels on everything else, also no added wheel weight.

I run plastic with tire glue instead of Beadlocks just because I have 1 set of tires and foams so I don't change much. And even if I did, I would probably buy more plastic wheels cause they're cheap. It doesn't do much to strain your drivetrain but it does help put some weight to help the wheels on the rocks. Thats the major downfall of plastic wheels is that you need to apply weight in other places for the more technical stuff.
