mini SUMMIT

yeah EPIC FAIL on traxxas part. It needed to have gotten the 2 speed transmission and locking diffs, to really make it a mini summit.
IMO the epic fail was the mini revo. the car was to small and light and way to short of suspension to run it off road. the mini revo is basically a track or street only car. the Mini summit on the other hand should have corrected most of the things that were wrong with the mini revo. long travel suspension bigger softer tires. at least it should be usable off road. In reality if you look at the chassis it is simply to small to add a bunch of extra components for locking diffs and 2 speed trans and servos. Maybe their biggest mistake was naming things mini-****. then people wouldnt have as high of expectations for the stuff. lol

If you need to change the tranys gear ratio there are two gears in the trany you can swap with eachother that will make it drive really slow. Didnt work good at all on the dirt track but if you want to crawl it should work good.

I agree totally. My merv gets driven on-road the majority of the time. I've tried it off road and it just doesn't have the ground clearance. Which is the reason I'll be getting a mini-summit. It should be alot better off-road truck.

Why not just buy the few parts needed to convert your mern to a summit? There can't be that many differences.

Losichris: nice bit of info on the tranny gearing. I don't own one but that will be a tidbit of info I save for possible future use.

I just picked up a mini summit today. It isn't bad, definitely not an out of the box crawler. I'm new to the crawling scene and am going to screw around with this a little bit. I didn't buy this truck for a crawler, just an all-around beater.

So, what actually did it cost you, if you don't mind me asking. You know how things go on the neatest/newest pricing....

Well, I kinda got ripped off. I knew it was a little high, but the guy just opened up this hobby shop. In this economy, its hard to open any business, so I said what the hell, I'll help the guy out. I think it was right around 360 taxes and all. He had about 3 or 4 of them in stock. I'm going to try to mess with the diffs first, they slip pretty bad. With a little throttle control, very minor crawling is possible, but its not made for it at all.

I want a set of narrow tires to put on it, just not sure what to run. The wheels on it look a little too wide for a narrow tire setup. Any suggestions on tires and wheels that will fit this thing?

I've had RC cars before but this is really the first one I'm going to be modifying. I'm use to the big stuff (mustangs, 4 wheelers, etc)
