mma : gsp v.s. diaz

I read a really interesting article about the title holders who are putting on boring fights lately. (can't remember where I read it, but I think it was on bjpenn.com)

It was talking about who's at fault for the boring fights, the champion or the challenger?
They made some great points about the fact that the champion doesn't have to attack to win. He just has to score points and wait for other person to make mistakes.
The challenger on the other hand is the one who has to prove himself and win the fight. So many challengers have stepped into the octagon and don't attack their opponent or hang back and wait for the other guy to attack. Once they lose they complain about the champion is now a lay and pray type of fighter.

Fact of the matter is GSP is IMO among the top 3 in the world of MMA fighters!!!
He works harder and has more skill, but you won't see exciting fights from him until he loses his title and has to win it back!

He is like Anderson silva, somebody has to find his weakness and take advantage of it. Unfortunately that's not an easy task for any fighter in the UFC right now!

That is very true. Look at Bernard Hopkins. His story is impressive but he has to be the most boring boxer in the history of the sport. He is not a KO artist nor he is a master technician but he is the smartest most savvy boxer in the ring and he just knows how to exploit the opponent's weaknesses. He holds a bunch of records and he is still a champion at age 46 (I think he is 46 now). That is amazing......but fukk he is boring in the ring!

You missed the point, if GSP runs and avoids getting hit you call it skills and he is in to win at all cost. If Silva does the same, he is a coward?

No,you misunderstood my point.

Scorpion said,GSP lays and prays, which means he takes his opponents down and avoids stand ups and getting into a trading punch match and my response was this:he's a technician,he goes after you and wears you down,he doesn't just lay and pray nor doesn't run around the octogon avoiding his opponent like silva does.

GSP doesn't avoid getting hit:shock:He may not stand a entire round and trade punches with a well known ko artist but you won't see him run around dancing like a monkey either like silva.

GSP on the other hand has faught some of the best fighters in his weight class...BJ penn, hardy, matt huges etc.. And has proved that he is a serious fighter and pound for pound one of the best.

BJ Penn is a 155 fighter who stepped up to 170, he's not nearly as good overweight as he is when he is 155. Though unlike GSP, BJ have fought in 155, 170 and even small matches against heavy weights on his way to the UFC, anything to get wins, experience, and noticed.

I like GSP, I don't like him being stagnant and unwilling to step up to 185. If you own something, I personally think its time to move up and try a new challenge in life, don't settle being the best in 1 area.

And to me pound for pound means across classes. Not sitting in a class. He's the best 170lb fighter, and I wouldn't say anything further until he steps up to 185. And somehow Dana White offers him title shot as fight one in 185...where Silva has yet to have one and still fight 3 fights at 205.

as far as him not finishing fights lately, well what can you say?doesn't mean that he's not a serious threat to anyone who steps into the octagon with him, maybe his time is coming to an end?only time will tell?

Pot meet kettle. You pounce on Silva for it, then once again say "give GSP a break".

Neither have competition set to test them at this point. Unlike GSP Silva has actually taken next class fights since the 185 class is dominated by him. GSP just waits for someone whos next.

Sorry dude but silva has not taken next class fights!...he sticks around his weight class as well,so if your gunna ponce GSP for doing it then you have to speak for silva as well.

GSP is a classy and respectful fighter who shows his opponents the up most respect unlike silva who shows such disrespect at times and like i said several comments earlier, that's why dana told him to cut the shit or your gone!

If silva is such this bad ass, then he can step up to light heavyweight to challenge someone.
