Is anyone running this combo on their trail rig / Wraith?

Castle Creations 1/10 SV3 Sidewinder WP 4600kV System



If so, how is the drag brake when configured? Plan on doing a blend of trailing and light crawling with my rig. Thanks!

thats not going to be a very good setup..that esc is not sensored, which will make it difficult to crawl without cogging. It also only has a max drag brake of 40% , some use the esc, but alot who use that esc will use it with a brushed motor. there are much better choices for the money. thats just been my experience with the sv2 and sv3 esc's

This is just my opinion & experience.

Nothing against Castle, they make a fantastic product. But if your wanting to do some crawling as well as trail running. Try a Holmes Hobby BRXL with a brushed motor.

Again not an endorsement, just my opinion.

^ X2... is what I run ( HH's BR/XL + 35t expt. mtr. )
and Holmes Hobbies ESC's are Castle USB/Link compatible.

the BR/XL is smooth running... brushed motors run submerged without issue.

I prefer the brushed e systems for crawlers
less issue if waterproofing is of any concern.

If wanting to go brushless...
waterproofing will require more effort.
As the motor/sensors are not waterproof or water friendly.

Castle MMP or HH's BLE ( both Castle USB/Link compatible )

sensor capable system is near mandatory if running brushless. JM $ .02

Brushless NON sensored motors can crawl exceptionally well. Not that 4600, not by any possible stretch of the imagination unless you run it on 1s with 2 gear reduction units bolted between the motor and trans. :lmao: Something around 500-1500kv will crawl but that's about all its good for.


I run an sv3/5700 4 pole castle setup in my basher on 3s and it rips for what it is, but it's not a crawler by any stretch of the imagination.

Run an sv3, older Ae2 or a brxl if you want to go brushed. Brushless non sensored will require a very low kv and higher voltage to have any chance of being decent all around.
