i was running my crawler today and got in some deep water and all of my electronics got wet but now my (brushed) motor wont work. now im wondering what am i doing wrong as my friend has a summit and he has submerged it dozens of time and his motor is fine? what did i do wrong to cause this???

+1....you won't kill the motor, but you may piss it off depending on if it's clear water or loaded with silt/mud.
A decent cleaning and make sure the brushes have life left & they're not hung, you should be OK.

If your other electronics are not waterproof (either purchased that way or made waterproof) then you probably fried just about everything but the motor.
Pull the motor and check it out. If you want to test it you can use a couple AA batteries in series and use that to power the motor directly, if it spins it is fine.

the esc is waterproof traxxas xl-5 the receiver is open but it still works fine and i ran it into clean water there is a little fish pond in my back yard i rolled it off the rock and didnt catch it in time. i will clean the motor up and see if it works if not im not to worried the motor was free lol and i still have the stock hpi 55t motor.

Motors are fine in water, the #1 culprit for this kind of thing is the receiver, they don't like water at all!!!
Take the electrics out and let them dry out in a warm place like an airing cupboard, then chase the last bits out with WD40, then see if it works, if it doesn't:
1. change the receiver and see if the motor works, if it doesn't then...
2. change the ESC and see if the motor works, if it doesn't then...
3. check the brushes haven't got stuck in the hoods with grit
