My project. Too much in a RTR. Bluemonkey Stage 2 won't fit OEM or MIP Driveshafts.

Edit: Upon mocking up all suspension and testing, the OEM isn't even long enough to support the Stage 2 Bluemonkey Suspension setup. Their email box is full.

Looks like this product was tested with a custom driveshaft setup but they never clarify what driveshaft they use?

I found help through this thread:

I have emailed both Blue Monkey and MIP about this but wanted to let you guys know as well. I'm sure a product revision is due from MIP considering their aftermarket driveshaft is shorter than the actual stock one.

I'm sure MIP will revise the product after seeing this. No idea why they would shorten a driveshaft unless they're just reusing parts from their bin...

I'd guess the MIP is a few cm shorter than the OEM Vaterra.

Stock Vaterra Driveshaft with Stage 2 Blue Monkey Suspension:

I bought the stage 2 Blue Monkey RC suspension package for the Vaterra Twin Hammers not knowing the rear arms were extended. I assumed it was just an all inclusive package for upper shocks and lower arms. The extended arms are great, but upon assembling your suspension with the MIP driveshaft I noticed the MIP driveshaft is too short for your extended suspension.

MIP is there any reason you guys made a shorter driveshaft than stock? I'd assume you guys would actually lengthen the driveshafts capabilities with products like this on the market.

The stock drive shaft is already weak, Blue Monkey's Stage 2 package is extending it to within a few cm of popping out on an already weak shaft. Through my previous experience this drive shaft is not going to last under brushless power with the stock length, let alone with with the extension.

Any suggestions? Any suggestions from either company? Perhaps a longer shaft that at least matches stock MIP?

See attached pictures. Thanks for taking a look.

Regards,

Might as well Show you guys the project...

Spent about 2 hours last night putting the beadlocks together just right. They are absolutely beautiful. I may get a different set and keep them for myself on future builds.

Here she is, as of tonight, ready to install proper gear ratio, clean up wiring, solder fans together with BEC, setup wiring. Install Servo and servo reinforcement plate.

Re: MIP Driveshaft shorter than stock, Won't fit Bluemonkey Stage 2.

a bit of progress. I'm going to run the stock steering servo for a session and see how it does, may be able to save a few $$$ without the Savox.

I ziptied all the wiring and secured it so it was out of the way of the cage and its mounting holes. I also sawed the Castle Sidewinder motor fan in half so it would fit without hitting the roll cage/body. Also put all the motor wires in a wire loom to clean up the spaghetti.

I'm going to give it a test run tomorrow and bring 4 different pinions to find out its sweet spot. I need to keep temps under 200 on the motor. Should be fine on 2s but it SCREAMS on 3s 12.6v. I'll likely half to regear for 3s to 51t/16t 32p for 3s. This things going to be a lot of fun to walk Ralphie with, he loves following RC cars and barks when they jump etc. Its comedy. I got the suspension goodies and lighting in, just got to install them. I'd like a baseline of how it runs stock first.

On with the pix.

very nice looking build. You should check out the Derwood Design Steering Kit. It takes the slop out of the steering

Hi Dane, sorry i'm just getting back from a business trip and responding to your messages. Awesome build!

I paid for the longer MIP shafts before i left and was hoping they would be at my house when i got back but this was not the case.

as soon as i get them i will post them on the website and forums for you to purchase at a very reasonable introductory price (for all the customers who have been patiently waiting).

Received the Punisher 2 RC4wd driveshaft today. Going to finish up the dual shocks and see if I can for hookup the sway bars for bash test session tomorrow. Going to to keep an eye on temp and regear accordingly

Some progress..

Got my RC4wd Punisher II driveshaft 150-190mm in and it fits perfect at full articulation as well as crawling droop. Man its crazy heavy duty. I took a pair of king shocks I had lying around, replaced the top cap so they look like dampers without remote reservoirs. I Love the way it came out looking.I ran 35w in the coilover and 45w oil in the dampers. Should I need to add the springs back on the second shocks I can. Its ready for it shake down run. I am going to keep the body panels off so I can measure motor and ESC temps as I am running 14.8v batteries.

Big ole fatty driveshaft.

Compared to stock.

In both first and second gear if I stab the throttle it does a standing backflip on my hardwood the tires are so sticky. Should be interesting to take this thing on a walk with my dog. I used to do the same with my Wraith...

Savox shift servo, 1258 Steering servo and Castle BEC @ 6.0v. Then buttoned it all back together. It was browing out with all the fans and servos without the BEC.

Pretty happy with how it came out. I have front and rear sway bars I may add after testing when I get a chance...

That's schweet

Thanks man!

Did a good bashing session today through 2 packs. First gear is actually pretty damn fast at 3800kv :lmao:

2nd gear is crazy fast like Short Course truck fast. I need to regear it.

The driveshaft slipped off the rear due to a lack of threadlock. Other than that, thing is FUN AS HELL!
