I bought one of these and a bearing kit also been contemplating it, over a cup of coffee. Driven it couple times, it needs smaller pinion gear to crawl well. I'm going to flip tranny like Harley did, the motor is running opposite of what it should, it's got some advance in the brushes, red dot is supposed to be positive. 2S lipo will work on stock ESC, I'l move battery forward and down too.
I've got an ECX Barrage 1/24 and it's very nicely built and designed but like all rc there are some things I would change. I love that it's got decent looking axles without worm gears, yay!
It can handle 2S lipo without BEC added. Harley has a nice little Youtube video on it and I've bought the Fast Eddy Bearing kit.
Things on my to do list for it are:
1) Tranny flip, including soldering positive wire from ESC to the side of motor with red dot as this will run the motor in forward direction giving more power and finer control.
2) Smaller pinion gear 10T or 8T to start with, 1/32 scale slotcars use press on pinions that might work (some plastic but mostly aluminum or brass) Losi Micro T pinion set will get down to 10T if you can find it anywhere.
3) Lower the body one hole front and rear....DONE
4) Bearings, here's Harley’s video overview, bearing installation how to and couple free modifications.

5) Switch to 2S lipo.
6) Move the battery up front.
7) Maybe better ESC with finer step control between each increase in throttle.
8 ) De-case and shrinkwrap ESC/RX unit for less weight and space.
9) Cut about 1.5 coils off each spring as BrakeWeight did to lower ride height.
10) Oil damped shocks would really help it by reducing bounce while crawling.
That's all I can think of atm.
Motor looks very similar in size and shape to these:
NSR King (long can) motors
NSR - Professional Slot Cars
Slotit Flat 6 and Boxer (long can) motors
Slot cars and accessories in 1/32 scale Performance Universal Spare Parts
Press on slotcar pinion gears are supposed to be same pitch as the Barrage spur gear, thanks Todd!

Body lowered one hole front and rear as per BrakeWeight's idea here, fits much cleaner, trimmed front wheelwells slighty:
