Need suggestions for electronics

Hi folks,
I am currently building an Axial SCX10 Jeep Wrangler G6. The frame is almost done and I am in need of some advice regarding electronics. Like what combination of electronics works best from motor, servo, esc, receiver, radio, battery, and charger.

I am trying for a budget build but still would like to enjoy the crawling aspect as well as throwing a lot of dust up while offroading.

I have very good experiences with the Hobbywing WP1060 esc. Comes cheap as hell (± $23), waterproof and uses jumper settings. Can handle 3S and has a 100% dragbrake. For motors i run only Novaks Terra Claw's. Haven't had any motor as durable as those. Also pretty cheap (± $18,-). I am hearing good things about the CYS servo's from Asiatees. The tech inside is from a No1 Brand as a little bird whispered in my ear. Radio's come in all sorts. Most 2 channel start at $25,-. But i would suggest getting a Radiolink RC-4S. Very stable, no glitchingissues here. ± $50,-.

Have a look on Asiatees. For those who can or will not afford No1 brand and have to build on a budget, they come with real nice affordable items.

$150,-?

Novak Terra Claw 35T: $ 18,50
240 Oz Servo CYS for ± $ 40,-
Radio ± $ 50
Esc ± $20,-
Lipo/Nimh Charger ± 40,-
1 2S Lipo battery ± $30,-

No, $150,- won't do it....

Thanks for the effort! I am actually looking into this part list that you put together and might actually go with it if no one else replies with more "low budget ideas" [emoji1]

For a budget radio. I picked up the fly sky gt2b for $28 on amazon. Makes it a little closer to your budget. It also comes with a rechargeable battery.

Ace servos are very nice read the specs closely. I got sevral just for extras come to find out sons dingo has ran it for a year and never missed a beat cost 19 on flea Bay metal gear water proof and 250 ish (can't remember at the moment) at 6volts. The Novak or the stock 27t can motor from Axial is fine. But Holmes hobbies has a 30t on sale for 25. Don't forget the bec!

Andy, it will be the small things that will cost you. For example. Since you are building a kit, Axial gives you a 20T pinion. Nice of course, but it will give you a lot of speed and less torque. What are your plans for the car? Slow crawling and still have some wheelspeed? Or bash it around? The Axial motors are really not that bad. Really, they are not. I heard of guys who have driven a G6 event with it. But a 27T might be too fast and a 55T too slow. Axial has nothing inbetween.

At a certain moment you will find the limitations of the parts that came with it. Like the plastic servohorn. It is not that durable (imo). These days i buy those in aluminum on Aliexpres for a scary price of $1,25 (incl. shipping).

I bought a new - the well known - Imax B6 charger. But needed a second one as my collection of lipo's grew. So i (and hope my sponsor does not read this) did buy a copy of that Imax also on Aliexpres for $ 20,-. Works flawless.

At this time, I just want it to run and do a little bit of crawling. I don't plan to run it really hard maybe just going through trails and stuff like that. No technical crawling at all just getting over a few rocks. I dunno if you have seen Headquake's videos on youtube but that's the kind of stuff I plan on doing.

I really appreciate you taking time to reply to my topic. I have learned quite a bit.

No idea :ror:
But except for the Novak (which comes cheap within the USA) all items looked up on Asiatees.
RcMart is the cheapest of all with the Novak's. Unfortunately they do not restock until mid september. If so, i am ordering 3. Keep 'm on stock :).

Shipping will not be that expensive. I never paid more then $20,-

Why but 3x 20$ motors, just to throw away? You could buy 1 nice HH motor and rebuild when the time comes.

Throwing your money away on cheap motors with OK performance, is a waste.. And doesn't keep you smiling for long..

I understand a person buying 1 junk motor, just to get running, but after that, it's better and cheaper in the long run, to buy nice electronics 2nd time around. IMO..

As goes for ALL electronics..

We lose more ppl this way! Buy cheap, buy 10 times.. Well you waste a bunch of money and can't ever stay running.
When you could of spent half the money, on something nice, and only spent it once!

TY Winnerone. I do respect your opinion on that.
Conscider my thoughts on this matter as lessons learned. In the past i had beautifull Tekin motors and other quality brands.
However, since i drive my rigs a lot (± 15 to 20 miles a month) and i drive 'm under harsh conditions -rocks, (submerged in) creeks, very fine sandy dunes, the motors have to endure a lot. Even 1st class motors broke down. Since my last name is not Gates, i do not have the financial means to buy a nice HQ motor every 2 months.
That i am getting 3 is because i have several rigs running and i like to keep things in back-up :).

You will be absolutely right that a HQ motor will pay off. But not with the amount of driving as i do. With all respect to those who don't.

Sure, i had budget motors ($13,- and less) that broke down after a rough watertrail. Pulled out my last hairs in despair. Just with those Novaks i was stunned by the amount of "abuse" they could handle.

Fair is fair... I never tried a HH motor. Also because they are hard to get here in Europe and shippingscosts are a bitch. For that money alone i can buy 2 Novaks.
Make 'm ship one to me and i gladly will give it a try :ror:

For the rest i never really had serious issues with so called "budget electronics". Any failures caused were the result of my own stupidity....

Thanks for the informative responses everyone!

The main reason I want to go for budget electronics is that I just want to see my rig come to life. What I mean by that is for my rig to simply run around my backyard, turn when needed, and maybe get over a small obstacle like a rock the size of one wheel. I know down the line I am going to upgrade it with better stuff but for now I am expecting it to behave like a toy grade rc does. I just want it to run alongside my toddler's maisto rock crawler. We will be using this mostly indoors and maybe a little bit of backyard action.

Just an update to this, I finally gave in and drove myself to hobby people my lhs and decided to get everything I need to run from there and also learned a lot from the salesperson.

Here's what I got: (excuse me for not remembering everything I am at work right now lol)
Axial 550 motor 55t
Lrp AI v2 esc
DHK rx tx 3 channel
Hitech servo hi torque metal gear servo
Nimh 4500 mah battery (I know but it was what was going to fit my budget. Me and my son had fun though and it did not even drain out.)
And an HP charger

Bottomline, I may not have gotten the standard stuff that would give my scx10 its maximum potential but the memories created with my son made everything worth it.
