New Bright JK hard body fender mods?

I'm a bigger fan of the flat tube fenders on a Jeep JK, rather then the wide stock fenders, and I was just wondering what you guys do to your New Bright JK bodies to recreate the flat tube fenders.

If I cut the stock fenders off but leave a little material to file and sand that area smooth, can I get away without needing any body filler? The body seems to be molded with plastic, but from the underside, it looks like it has fiber mixed into it.

I've also seen some guys cut only the rolled over lip off the stock New Bright fenders and it looks pretty good too. In another search, I found a few members using Axial's Rubicon JK fenders. Does anyone have any tips, pictures, or preferences as to which is the best way to replicate the flat tube fender look? I want to know what I'm getting into, before I attempt this, so as not to ruin the New Bright body. Thanks!

Mine are getting cut completely off and the jeep dovetailed by hoosierdaddy. I'm probably going to make my own flairs for mine or not run any. When you getting ready to cut measure 6 times and cut once and use tape or such to mark your lines. Check out the work hoosierdaddy does on here and his posts as all the new bright bodies are molded in abs plastic I think. This is a pretty cool build in my opinion. http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/1-9-scale-rigs/407975-kcs-newbright-jk.html

Thanks for the link. That was a great build to read through. I also liked that another member posted photos of his Jeep JK with the Axial flat fenders too. Those actually look really good on the New Bright body. I'm impressed with the look of both, but now I can't make up my mind!

If you want the cleanest look personally I would shave down the flares on the JK and fill in the screw holes on top. Alot of work but worth it IMO.
