Sold my Bomber last week and found a lightly used Capra for sale locally 2 days ago. Right off the bat, it crawls great. I'm strictly into slow technical crawling. No bashing, speed or care for scale looks.
This is my 6th crawler but my first 1.9. The only issue I have with the Capra is the small tires. I know they make some taller 1.9's but are they "bigger" enough to make a real difference? I put some 2.2's from another car and it did much better.
I like the 3 piece wheels that come with it but don't want to waste money on tires and foam if they're not significantly larger.
Best option?

Do these 1.9 Axial wheels accept the Axial wheel weights?

I'm familiar with the XR10 wheels and weight.

Best items to help this stick to rocks?
Easy ways to lower COG? Looked at some tips and videos but none seemed too helpful. The pen spring mod sounds interesting.

I did the pen spring mod when I built mine which lowered the ride height about 10mm. I’m running 2.2 tires with stock open cell foams (as is, no cutting foams) and Treal brass portal covers. All stock other than that and it’s amazing. Will darn near climb almost vertical as long as there’s something for the tires to bite. I had the 2.2 wheels and tires from a prior crawler and I was planning on trying a set of 1.9 Hyraxes but love the 2.2s so much I really have no interest in switching them. Rig has awesome clearance and I really have to try to roll it. Side hilling is great.
For what it’s worth, I run many different tire combos on my 10 rigs and the Duratrax Deep Woods and Showdowns are absolutely amazing tires and they make both in 1.9 and 2.2. One of those will be my next set of 2.2s for my Capra if I wear out the JConcepts.

Drove a bunch this week. I love this truck!
I ran some 2.2 Ripsaws with a little weight and started smoking the motor after about 15min. So now I'm planning on the Voodoo KLR X4 to keep the smaller diameter but a great crawl tire. Also want to keep weight off the wheels and get some portal brass. Cheap/Heavy ones on Amazon. Any ones to stay away from? Seem to have decent real life reviews.

I tried running a 13t crawl master with a 1080 on a 11t pinion and was over heating on 1.9s. Ended up switching to a micro x and 1800kv slate and it is running nice and cool n 3s now. I was running some cut and shaved proline 5in 1.9 boggers. I recently switched to some landmines. I think the 1.9s with the portal axles are a little more stable.

After driving against my wife's XR10 yesterday and looking at some build pics today, I want to go 2.2 tires on this. Maybe eventually do a sporty chassis as well.
I know I need to gear down and apparently an 11t pinion is the smallest you can go without modification? What does it take to get to a 9t?
Looking at wheels with SLW hubs which will be new to me.

If you do 2.2s I’d strongly recommend the pen spring mod and brass portal covers on the front. Mine has incredible side hilling abilities like this. I’m also fairly certain that a 9 tooth pinion is the smallest you can go. I’m NOT 100% sure of this nor have I done it myself, so if anyone knows for sure please confirm or correct me. I run a 11 tooth with a Holmes Revolver V2 2200kv paired with a Castle Mamba X. I have excellent low speed control and motor hasn’t temped over 95* F. No other mods on mine nor do I feel that there’s any need for any.

Installed the Kingsea brass covers today. Big and heavy.
Looking to do pin type tires. Got Hyrax on a Wraith and Rovers on the XR. I'd like to try something different.
