New castle motor not working

I'm building an scx10.3 and put a brand new castle mamba micro x combo with a slate 2850kv motor in it.

At first it seemed ok but after maybe 30 seconds it sounded like all the gears in the transmission blew and the car lost power.

The transmission was fine and the slipper clutch was a bit loose but working. Finally realized the problem is the motor. I can run the motor on the bench and it looks ok but i can hold the motor shaft with my fingers.

Took the motor apart and it seems like the shaft is rotating inside the thing with the magnets.

This must be a production error right?
Can i do something to fix the motor?

Sounds like the shaft came loose from the rotor. Had that happen once but motor was 3ish years old. Car would still go but sounded like slipper was begging for its life.

While I can't help with your issue ( although it'll be nice to see what Castle does for you ), I just put this setup in my SCX10ii and its a killer setup. Running on 3s it'll make the rig do a backflip from a stop but will crawl as slow as you can imangine. The power on tap from this setup is unreal.

I only have brushed systems to compare to so I'm sure there are better systems out there but for me this setup is great.

Haven't sent back in mine in the same combo. It seems as if the motor lost haul sensor? Not 100% sure on that. Maybe a bad batch came out IDK. I do know that it was installed correctly because OSRC did it.

My first guess is that you have sensor wire issues. I know my mamba x can make the motor make awful sounds and be all jittery when you try to creep if the sensor wire is a dud. Ask me how I know.

If you have castlelink try and set motor type to sensorless and try and run it. This will tell you if the motor and esc function normally without using the sensor wire.

I keep a few lengths of sensor wires on hand to ease wire management on new builds, and to diagnose issues on current setups.

I've had a few motors over the years have the magnets separate from the shaft, but its certainly not common.

First question is where did you buy this combo? There are a lot of counterfeit CC motors and ESCs floating around and unless you purchased from a licensed dealer you may or may not have a genuine CC motor.

That said, if you did purchase from a licensed dealer you can open a CC warranty claim here:

Amain so it should be good. Castle has not answered.

You know i think you are right, it's not the shaft that is loose it is something with the sensor. I'm not sure exactly what, i had the lost sensor cable warning on but after changing the esc settings and reconnecting everything it seems fine. Great news, thanks a lot.

The setup is great, i have it on a sendero too. It doesn't do backflips but i think it's because the front overdrive. No loss there.

I have not needed an external bec even though i use strong savox servos and the aux wire is perfect for switching between crawler and trail mode. Great little combo.
