New guy here and I keep getting redirected to this site when I search something on Google, so I figured it's time I register. Just thought I'd post a little "howdy everyone" post and tell a little about myself :D

I'm 24 years old, single with no kids, so I have nothing better to do with my extra money than to throw it at a new hobby, lol. I've been into computers and automotives for all my life, and actually picked up the aquarium and fish keeping bug about a year ago, but I'm about to drop it because it just doesn't interest me like it use to. I kind of grew out of the computer scene about a year ago too. I've got a $1400 gaming desktop rig that I built from scratch a while back, and I'm just not into gaming any more and I've pretty much given that computer up and just use my laptop all the time now. I hope to be selling that thing and the rest of my aquarium stuff soon to fuel an RC crawler build (maybe several) "thumbsup" The only hobby I have NOT grew old of is automotives! Been wrenching on cars and trucks since before I even had a license. Grew up around small and big block Chevy's with my father at the race tracks and at the mud boggs, and later worked on my OWN cars and trucks to make them how I wanted them and to keep them running, everything from simple tasks to full on engine and suspension overhauls, so I'm no stranger to mechanics and that sort of thing. I'm also an active moderator on two automotive forums as well.

I've always loved the RC scene. That started off young as my parents would buy me the cheap RC cars and trucks from Toys'R'Us and what not, lol. Even then I couldn't leave them alone, and I broke pretty much every one I ever owned because I would modify them with different motors, wheels, and strapping a second battery pack to them  eventually they just stopped buying them for me as they realized what I was doing to them, lol. A few years back I was big into XMods and owned a SLEW of 1st gen cars and 2nd gen trucks. The cars I had fun modifying to make them go fast; awd steel axle shafts, steel suspension pats, custom BUILT motors (not just buying upgraded ones), adding more batteries for that extra power, and so on and so forth. But I had more fun when I got my hands on a few of the 2nd gen trucks and began giving them suspension and body lifts, putting together custom wheel and tire packages to run on them, modifying the rear to get a little more articulation, and modifying and installing a servo as an actual drive motor for RIDICULOUS amounts of low speed crawling torque (which just lead to OTHER parts breaking, lol. I can't tell you how many of those plastic differentials and axle shafts I went through...)

BUT, there's only so far you can go with a cheap IFS setup and a joke of a half live half independent rear suspension... so not having the money to get into the hobby a little more seriously, I eventually grew old of it and gave all my "toys" to my nephew, who still messes around with them today :)

But now that I DO have a little extra money to play with, and all the time in the world, I'm looking at diving head first into it! I don't have any kits, parts, or anything at all right now, and I'm thinking my first purchase will be an SCX10 kit, although I'm still undecided on if I want to get a RTR kit so I can get right into it with everything I need and modify as I go, or if I just want to get the vehicle by itself and get the electronics and radio separate. The reason I chose the SCX10 kit over something more crawling specific is purely for the scaled realism. I'm not looking to get into crawling competitions, but rather have something that looks really nice and realistically scaled, and is still very capable enough to take out on some trails and have some fun with on the weekends!

So anyhow, yeah that's a long post, lol. Just thought I'd say hi and I look forward to learning a ton as I get deeper into the hobby!

welcome....cool that you have been in RC's for a while ...as far as you giving the "toys" to your nephew...GET THEM BACK...the bodies make great scalers!!! check out the 1.55 and 1.9 forum.

and your right..you will have more than one RC......

hey look at that; my first post and I get spammed on :D

lol

thanks for the welcome! the XMod's 1/24 scale was a little too small though in my opinion, thus why I'm leaning towards the 1/10 SCX10. granted yes, they were detailed pretty nicely, I didn't like the Titan or F150 bodies on them. when I get around to building the SCX10, I'd more than likely end up putting a Toyota body on it

maybe making it look like a beefy version of my old Toyota

OR, a 4wd beefy version of my current ride :D

I'll have to see if I can dig up some of the old photos I use to have though of the XMods. I had a bunch, but there's a good chance they were all on the external backup hard drive that I go out on me about a month ago :(

Welcome... You will have ALOT of fun here. Everyone here will help you out in any way you need. All you need to do is ask. You might start out with a scaler, but I bet you end up with a scaler or two, a comp. rig or two, & maybe a 1.9 or two. I started out with an AX-10, then a Losi Comp. Crawler. Got rid of them & now I have a Berg Pro. Comp. Crawler & a Losi 1.9 Pro Comp Crawler. Now I'm building a Ti-Fighter Pro Comp. Crawler. Got everything but the axles. Waiting on them to get finished. I started with one & now I'm working on my 3rd one. Started about 2 years ago. Look what happened to me. So.... Welcome & good luck. "thumbsup"

You are the perfect candidate for this hobby (emphasis on single).

The Honcho is a good start- DIVE IN AND HAVE FUN!

Welcome aboard"thumbsup". You should really enjoy the honcho and find tons of info from some of the best in the hobby here. What does you screen name mean:ror:

Welcome and good luck on your RC venture. I do not know of any exact boddies for your two rigs (1:1). There is a popular option from Tamiya for the earlier Toyota's, I am sure you have seen them by now on here. There are a ton of them and the body fits the SCX10 very well (Honcho would have to be shortened a little).

Just do some homework on here are you will have a lot of fun with it. Very rewarding hobby IMHO.

Nothing better than someone with no major obligations and nothing better to do with there spare cash. You are on your way to being a real Hermit with a Crawler addiction. Welcome aboard !

LOL, it's a long story...

well, maybe not so much of a long story, just a strange one...

it all comes down to a skit from the comedian Dane Cook and a drunk'n night with friends back in the day.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEOHBtXhnPg

one night hanging out having a few drinks, Dane Cook came on Comedy Central and we were all having a good time and watching it. Well for whatever reason my buddy (who's house we were at) had a superman cape in his garage, and in my drunk'n stuper I had put it on and was wearing it around for the night. Well that skit came on, and after it was done, my buddy picked up a paintball gun that he had sitting on the counter (he was showing off his new toy to people earlier) and shot me right in the chest with a red paint ball... hurt like hell, but I was instantly dubbed "superbleeder" for the rest of the night and years to come... thus the screen name

Well Bleeder, hows the crawler treating ya?

not bad :D it's a blast for sure! so far I've only messed around in the front and back yard with the rig, but I'm getting ready to make my own metal links and chassis mount the steering servo, then maybe upgrade the drive shafts (I've had the stupid things pop off a few times already... although nothing makes crawling more realistic than breaking parts :D ). I'm going to build this SCX10 up a little before I try it on some serious rocks
