Quarry Creeper
New guy here and I keep getting redirected to this site when I search something on Google, so I figured it's time I register. Just thought I'd post a little "howdy everyone" post and tell a little about myself
I'm 24 years old, single with no kids, so I have nothing better to do with my extra money than to throw it at a new hobby, lol. I've been into computers and automotives for all my life, and actually picked up the aquarium and fish keeping bug about a year ago, but I'm about to drop it because it just doesn't interest me like it use to. I kind of grew out of the computer scene about a year ago too. I've got a $1400 gaming desktop rig that I built from scratch a while back, and I'm just not into gaming any more and I've pretty much given that computer up and just use my laptop all the time now. I hope to be selling that thing and the rest of my aquarium stuff soon to fuel an RC crawler build (maybe several) "thumbsup" The only hobby I have NOT grew old of is automotives! Been wrenching on cars and trucks since before I even had a license. Grew up around small and big block Chevy's with my father at the race tracks and at the mud boggs, and later worked on my OWN cars and trucks to make them how I wanted them and to keep them running, everything from simple tasks to full on engine and suspension overhauls, so I'm no stranger to mechanics and that sort of thing. I'm also an active moderator on two automotive forums as well.
I've always loved the RC scene. That started off young as my parents would buy me the cheap RC cars and trucks from Toys'R'Us and what not, lol. Even then I couldn't leave them alone, and I broke pretty much every one I ever owned because I would modify them with different motors, wheels, and strapping a second battery pack to them  eventually they just stopped buying them for me as they realized what I was doing to them, lol. A few years back I was big into XMods and owned a SLEW of 1st gen cars and 2nd gen trucks. The cars I had fun modifying to make them go fast; awd steel axle shafts, steel suspension pats, custom BUILT motors (not just buying upgraded ones), adding more batteries for that extra power, and so on and so forth. But I had more fun when I got my hands on a few of the 2nd gen trucks and began giving them suspension and body lifts, putting together custom wheel and tire packages to run on them, modifying the rear to get a little more articulation, and modifying and installing a servo as an actual drive motor for RIDICULOUS amounts of low speed crawling torque (which just lead to OTHER parts breaking, lol. I can't tell you how many of those plastic differentials and axle shafts I went through...)
BUT, there's only so far you can go with a cheap IFS setup and a joke of a half live half independent rear suspension... so not having the money to get into the hobby a little more seriously, I eventually grew old of it and gave all my "toys" to my nephew, who still messes around with them today
But now that I DO have a little extra money to play with, and all the time in the world, I'm looking at diving head first into it! I don't have any kits, parts, or anything at all right now, and I'm thinking my first purchase will be an SCX10 kit, although I'm still undecided on if I want to get a RTR kit so I can get right into it with everything I need and modify as I go, or if I just want to get the vehicle by itself and get the electronics and radio separate. The reason I chose the SCX10 kit over something more crawling specific is purely for the scaled realism. I'm not looking to get into crawling competitions, but rather have something that looks really nice and realistically scaled, and is still very capable enough to take out on some trails and have some fun with on the weekends!
So anyhow, yeah that's a long post, lol. Just thought I'd say hi and I look forward to learning a ton as I get deeper into the hobby!
