Hi there guys, gals, freaks and geeks. Title says it all, new SCX10 owner, not new to the boards (I've been hanging out over in the HPI boards), but I thought I would pop in over here and say howdy. So long story short, I have covered the entire spectrum it seems with the crawlers, and the end was here in the scale world. I've attached a few photos to explain the journey, and if you feel like reading through all this I promise I will get to the purpose at some point. The journey begins here:
HPI Crawler King acquired from an employee for $50:

Met Kerk at the local hobby shop, dude got me hooked, so I started the mod attemps, turned out as such:

One night, randomly started crawling things:
Rocks

Guardrails

Short time later, mod bug bites:

About 6 months of crawling and crashing, I decide to try the comp chassis bit:

So then sitting there one day, I realize that the comp chassis is running Axial links, wheels, transmission...Why don't I just buy the SCX10 and be happy with a stock rig. Which brings us to the current day project:
Box Fresh:

3 days later, stock idea destroyed due to way to may upgrade options. Small steps though, bumpers, d-rings, wheels/tires, winch, etc etc.

Then the idea of competing in scale class hits, so we start looking for scale accessories:
Veggie basket, roof basket with tools

So needless to say, I'm hooked! Until last month, the Deadbolt body is just too pretty to beat up, so lets throw this into the mix:

And that is the long-short story. The Nukizer body will be getting the full treatment (caged, accessories, lights, on and on) so I will be updating this along the path to completion or divorce, which ever comes first.

Looks good man. Hope you enjoy the journey

That Nukizer body is a thing of beauty! Do like me (and I'm betting most of us here) cash only transactions and no receipts. You'll get to completion well before divorce lol. Looking forward to what's next

Thanks! Luckily she is ok with this hobby, it's cheaper than my older RL crawler and most of my other hobbies. As far as what's next, need to mount the Nukizer body and trim it to fit with the RC4WD bumper, but we discovered that the dimples on the body don't line up with the posts. Am I missing something? Maybe an alternate bosy post?

Length or width doesn't line up?
Length. The dimples on the body are about 1/8 inch further forward than the posts. We tried moving the rear towers back, but then the axles are set way off center. I'm just not sure if Axial makes a different body post, or what the deal is.

Look in your spare parts bag for other body mounts. There should be a set that has an offset for longer bodies. For example, the rear mounts on my jeep c/r aren't straight up and down, they have an L shape to em. My spare parts bag has the straight ones for the shorter G6 body as well as different length ones.

I don't have a Nukizer yet, but it may need the JK rear body posts as they are offset? The Deadbolt and Nukizer are both 12" wheel base, so the dimples not lining up is likely a difference in body post. Either way, you can punch holes in the bed where they need to be, even if they don't line up with the factory dimples.

Thanks guys. Checked the spare parts last night, only extra body mounting option I received was the SUV mount, but it's not offset. I thought I needed that L-shaped one, so at least I'm not going nuts. Guys at the shop are going to call Axial today with a "WTF" question as to why they list it is compatible yet don't include the mounts. My plan however, is to spend the next couple of days off with with the CNC machine and just make my own, if I get super bored maybe even pop out some other random parts that I don't find appealing. Maybe luck falls upon us and Axial decides to send the mounts out to me??? Not likey, but wishful thinking never hurt anyone."thumbsup"

Found it on the Axial website.

Who would have thought they would put them with the roll cage parts

Those trees have the mirrors and spare tire parts for the rubicon so that's probably why they aren't in the deadbolt parts bag.

Very true, as I have found with many of the part trees, random parts that don't seem to have a place on some trucks. But hey, at least they give us spares.

They look awesome. That really has me itching for upgrades. Here I thought I was going to keep this hobby in check. :)

Finally got the correct body mounts, my paint guy is reaming the holes tonight. Bonus to that parts tree, mirrors! Figured we have them, might as well use them. Added the HR upper link mounts tonight for s**ts nd giggles (plus the hobby shop just had them lying there, so running true 4-link set up. I'll update pics once my camera returns from it's annual cleaning.

Thats why I never throw my spare parts out. Cut em off the trees and put em in an organizer. Never know when you'll need something out of your spare stuff. "thumbsup"

So it's been a bit since my last update, but here we are yet again. Christmas paid off well, the wife surprised me a few wanted items for the rig.

Current state, only obvious upgrade here are the 1.9 scale steelies with Proline BFG KG2 tires.

Rear end, added trailer hitch and backup light is the faux-bumper.

Out front, nothing over the top, all lights are functional.

Body removed, this is where Santa hooked it up. Battery relocation mount, VP transmission case, Hot Racing driveshafts, STRC shock hoops, etc.

Had to do some fancy receiver box locating. Between the rear shocks seemed like a good place.

Some Boom Racing driveline parts. Being a brand I was not familiar with, I am actually impressed with the quality and fit. These mated together with no issues and are nice a snugs without having any slop.

So that is where we sit currently. I am starting on an interior and fender wells this evening.

You can mount the Rx box turned around 180* and a little lower(cut those tapered end posts in half) and it will resemble a gas tank. Plus lower the weight of it just a little then you may be able to mount the ESC on top of it. Too low and it will take away some axle travel. But remember that both shocks fully compressed will never happen out crawling.

Thanks! I played with a bunch of different ideas but not that one. I know that a 3d printer is my near future and was going to redesign the box at some point, but I'm going to try your suggestion for the time being.
